    That money is only to study and prepare the project lol. The real cost is estimated around 110+ billions at least.

    I’m 1000% for this project, but I fear a conservative government could end the project before it even starts. We invested 500 millions for a tramway in Quebec city just to have conservative put the project on hold.

      But it’s only on hold, right ? Next government, if it’s not conservative, is still likely to resume it right ?

        It just got announced so it’s an active project at least until de next election. If the conservatives win, it will most probably be canceled, but if the liberals win it will have at least a couple of years to work on the project, maybe even realize a first section of the railway. Let’s hope it does happen.

      Apparently, but details are thin. SNCF is involved, which suggest there will be French-style TGVs made by Alsthom, which bought the Canadian train maker Bombardier a few years ago. So, 300kph instead of (AFAICT) the current 160 which also seems to be antiquated diesel. North America really is so backward.
