The ps5 community from Lemmy.ml is planning to migrate.

This… is an important test and something to study. Migrations across the Lemmy-verse are untested. I’m going to keep a close eye on this community and seeing if it works out for them.

But why though? Is this so one day it can connect with Threads since .ML won’t and .World will?

what? .world is federating with threads? when was this decided/announced? threads is awful, and it makes me sad to think we’re federating with them now :(

.world is just not preemptively blocking. They made a whole post about it. Threads currently doesnt federate with anyone, so there’s nothing to block.

No. .ml is being repossessed by the mali government and no one knows what will happen then. All .ml may lose their rights to their domain. I do disagree with moving to lemmy.world though, too much of lemmy is already concentrated on that instance even if it is so far very stable (except for the ddos).

I’m the PS5 mod. I have no interest in threads. Click through to the actual post where I state my reasons.

Tldr: Mali is reclaiming .ml top level domains which puts lemmy.ml, and by extension my community, at risk.

No one on threads is going to be interacting with Lemmy communities in any meaningful way. It’s an incredibly janky and annoying experience following groups from microblogging interfaces.
