Why did she fork openboard? Did development stop? It would be really nice if people would add info to the readme…

Yes the development of OpenBoard has been at a standstill for some time, this fork has added various functionalities

I’m not complaining about the fork.

The old version shall add a big banner at the top that it’s discontinued. You shouldn’t have to open an issue to ask if it’s discontinued. I still see people recommending it. Hopefully not after today.

        I’m using floris anyway 😅

Kudos to the first release 👍🏻

It’s the nature of opensource, to my knowledge there is no official confirmation that Bromite (for example) is dead. Development stopped more than a year ago.

I had an opensource project many years ago, I knew I could not continue it for quite a few reasons. I did announce it before I stopped, but not everyone can.

My project was picked up and is much better than what I ever did with it.

            Thx, I understand.

I have a couple of old projects, if anyone would open an issue or pr i’d respond. The code still works, it’s just not updated and uses old depenencies.

If people still open issues and/or pull requests, maybe you should consider announcing that you won’t take care of it anymore. People spend time opening them and screaming into the void isn’t nice.

If you have a project which is used by thousands or millions, it may be useful to announce that you won’t take care of it anymore such that someone else can take your place. It happened but anyone who is not following news everyday on forums uses an old browser now.

I agree with you, and thank you for your work.

With my own project I no longer had the time, and a multinational was going to release it (based on what I had put online). So, I published everything I had and did a copyleft license. The multinational still made money, but could not patent it. Cottage industries still use it and you could make it right now with some soldering skills and a Mouser BOM.

The original product could be strictly physical, though it lacked quite a bit of functionality, adding a few chips or an SBC vastly improved its performance.

That’s great if you can still maintain your project, not everyone can though. In some ways I wish I was still in the thick of things, but I can’t be, and like I said it has moved on. My project is probably better now that I am no longer involved. Other people have moved it places I did not consider. I think that’s great. I still check in from time to time and provide guidance if asked, mostly I let it run its course.

New name, old icon. 😁 I’ll see how I get on with this keyboard. It’ll stop me relying on gifs from Gboard. 👍

Took me a minute to figure out this is a keyboard. Awesome, I’m looking for a good keyboard now. How do i install this on my phone? I don’t see it on fdroid or play store.

Evidently there is a part at the bottom of advanced in the keyboard settings where you can choose to load the library. Download it from the link on the github page.

I’ve been making typos for about a year now since I switched from all tue keylogger keyboards. Swype to type is the best way to type on a phone for sure. Saying that… Is this offline

From the github features list… 👌🏻

        Allow loading Glide typing library

not included in the app, as there is no compatible open source library

can be extracted from GApps packages (“swypelibs”), or downloaded here

if you are concerned about security implications of loading user-provides libraries, please use the nouserlib build variant, which removes this option. If HeliBoard is installed as system app, and swypelibs are available for the system, they will be used.

So I’ve installed, but the docs are seriously lacking - what’s the globe button do?

Why do ui designers make buttons that are unclear and lack documentation?

Edit: After a little adjustment to the settings, the autocorrect is nearly as good as Swiftkey. I’m liking it

Thank you for sharing this! I have enjoyed thumbkey for a long while, but it’s lovely being back on qwerty to try this out :) at minimum it means I have a keyboard to offer when other people use my phone! :)
