The ruling class wants you to be literate enough to understand their written orders. And nothing more. True literacy is punk. True literacy is revolutionary.
If you look at this article and think “this is too long to read” you’re part of the target audience. Make the time.
And to add, book reading is not the only kind of reading.
I was surprised about the amount of reading in the Meat Clown demo, which is also surprisingly wholesome for a “Splatformer” game about a Space Clown based Post-apocalypse with serious Lisa the Painful vibes.

And yeah, you’re totally right.
Reading as an activity is really any time you really sit down and process something someone else is trying to meaningfully convey to you in the written word, and it can hit pretty hard in short packages, with the right context.
I do wish Solarpunk would more embrace sticking poems, factoids and other little passages around, because thoughtful plaques both feel extremely Solarpunk IMO, and cross over with my love of the adventure game genre.
I mean, what good park doesn’t have that kinda thing all over, to share the love?
