The leader of the largest union for federal employees has warned a congressional committee that Donald Trump’s campaign to dramatically downsize the government amounts to “the biggest assault” on its workforce in American history.

“In just the past week, we have seen the administration issue a legally dubious policy to drain departments and agencies of experienced and dedicated professionals, clearly with the objective of crippling the ability of federal agencies to do their jobs and setting them up to fail in the eyes of the American taxpayer. What is happening today is not a drive to streamline government but to destroy it,” Everett Kelley, national president of the American Federation of Government Employees, said in a statement submitted today to the House oversight committee, which is holding a hearing focusing on Trump’s government reform campaign.

Kelley pointed to Trump’s order to reclassify tens of thousands of nonpartisan government employees in a way that will make them easier to fire, calling it “the biggest assault on the federal workforce in American history.”

“Make no mistake about it: if the assault that the Trump Administration initiated last month continues unchallenged, every member of Congress will soon hear from angry or confused constituents about why their VA claims have not been processed or why their Soc

I’m a veteran dependant on disability while I search for a job from various friend and family couches. DEI includes disabilities and musk has to keys to my survival. And I’m one of the lucky ones. But don’t worry, when I told my parents why I’m scared and explained what’s happened so far they reassured me that “they wouldn’t do that”

Yep. After this I’m wondering which of my VA benefits will actually remain. I’ve lost my confidence that the VA will provide me anything. I can’t go to them for anything with regards to Gender Dysphoria, and I really don’t know what I can do. No way I’ll be able to get any VA disability (TBH I don’t have a great case for that anyways) but now I can’t trust my government at all now. I’m hoping that they’ll still accept DEI for veterans, especially since apparently we’re supposed to be good in society, but I still don’t have any confidence.

My only hope is somehow using the VA to sue if they do block benefits.

And I’m sorry they won’t help you. If things had gone differently, we might have been closer to establishing the support you need. If this were any other time I’d say you should submit a claim anyway (I got 50% for major chronic depression alone), but now I just don’t know

I’m glad you have helpers. I hope we all step up and be one if we have people that need help in our community.

It’s actually pretty unusual for a president to follow through on all of their campaign promises.

It is about as useful as the whole article.

“if the assault that the Trump Administration initiated last month continues unchallenged, every member of Congress will soon hear from angry or confused constituents about why their VA claims have not been processed or why their Social Security retirement benefits have not been delivered”

Warned…that shit played out. If you are that close and it’s not action…STFU.
