On Tuesday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau warned that Donald Trump was softening up Canada by attacking our economy ahead of an attempt to annex the country.
Let that sit for a moment.
Because it’s easy to miss the significance of the statement. We live in an era of exaggeration, and a moment of frenetic happenings. But the prime minister of Canada has said that the global hegemon is attacking this country economically in the hopes of later annexing it. To put it mildly, the stakes right now are high, and our leaders must rise to meet the challenges these stakes imply.
At least one premier understands the assignment. After Trudeau spoke, Ontario Premier Doug Ford held his own press conference in Toronto. “I want to inflict as much pain as we possibly can until we get to a deal,” Ford said.
He laid out a plan to hit the United States hard in response to Trump’s attack on Canada’s economy and sovereignty. You could write a book about Ford’s failures. Some people have. But his approach to dealing with the Trump regime is spot on.
It’s funny to me that “and it’s good” had to be said because most of his ideas are so horrible and stupid.
Just turn off their electricity right now
Charge them more, 25% more to start, and if the blanket tariffs go up, so does the cost of electricity
Just have every country stop doing business with the U.S.
America first? Yeah, it sure will break first.
Yeah, I a tally think things aren’t as bad for anyone else as the US thinks they are. They are acting like this is 1935, but the whole has changed, and the are about to find real quick that what gave them power wasn’t guns, but the alliances and knowledge they had hoarded. They are getting rid of all that real fast as the world realigns much faster than they expected.
Bullies like Trump only understand the language of power. You can’t smile or handshake your way out of their attacks. You’ve got to sock them in the kisser.
With any luck at all, the bully might finally get his ass knocked out with this kind of epic fucking up.
Elbows up!
Is it not elbows in?
Not sure if you’re serious, bud.
Elbows up means get ready to fight.
Guess I was over thinking it? Elbows up to me says you’re going to take a body shot - elbows in is the coaching to tighten up your (boxing) guard.
Fists up or dukes up says get ready to fight (to me).
Heheh yea, it’s overthinking. Elbows up is just hockey term for going to fight. Like, I’m wearing armour, good luck with a body shot.
I hope he cancels all plans to dig some stupid hole. I have minimal faith in ford,he better price is actual worth for once.
Same.
Spend that money on a boatyard on Lake Ontario to launch Canadian ships made with Hamilton’s steel.
Spend it nationalizing GM’s plants if they close, so we can keep all the staff on and retool for artillery and drones made in Windsor and Sarnia using Cobalt’s cobalt.
Spend it on our manufacturing industry to machine those new tools.
Spend it on Ontario lumber to help us spin up a thriving furniture and housing industry.
Maybe spend it on beginning to build a nuclear arsenal.
Nukes are a waste of money unless you already have everything else. The only time anyone would use a nuke is when they decide they would rather end the world than lose the war. You are generally much better off just planning to not lose the war in the first place because you have enough arms. Canada (unlike Isreal or Iran) is rich enough to do all needed conventional arms development themselves (or better yet share the development with allies: Australia and Europe)
You’re never going to compete with the American military industrial machine. Nukes are the best deterrent
Right now a significant portion of the military would rebell if the us ordered an attack on canada. Stay ‘friends’
We should design and build the parts for suitcase nukes, then ship them in pieces to Canadians in place in the US for assembly and installation in strategic locations.
We really do need nukes. We should have always had them.

Military is federal, not provincial.
Fair point. I forgot about that. Provided, of course, it’s a military op, and not and intelligence one.
