On 20 March 2025, Luton Magistrates Court granted the three-month Closure Order against Fone UK, located at 1a High Street, Leighton Buzzard, LU7 1DN.
This order, executed by our Trading Standards Team in collaboration with Bedfordshire Police, prevents access to the premises. This is in response to ongoing complaints from local residents to the us and police.
On 19 March 2025, officers seized a total of 343 packets of illegal cigarettes, 170 illegal vapes and 69 pouches of illegal tobacco with a combined value of up to £10,000, with the help of sniffer dog Rio.
Councillor John Baker, Executive Member responsible for Public Protection at Central Bedfordshire Council, said:
The activities of Fone UK harm residents and legitimate businesses alike. This Closure Order sends a strong message that criminal enterprises will not be tolerated. This outfit was operating within metres of a local school, and I am grateful to members of the public for providing evidence and feedback to enable the council to take decisive action. If you suspect a business is selling unlawful tobacco or vape products, or selling to minors, please get in touch with the council or your local councillor. We offer a confidential reporting service and we’re on your side.
Anyone with information about illegal or counterfeit tobacco products or vapes can report it anonymously.
