I don’t have many close people in life right now, but I have to share this with someone.
Tonight has been very stressful! In the middle of my work shift, I got a text that someone had my dogs at their house. The little buggers figured out how to unlock and open my sliding door and had a little adventure.
So, I get permission from work to go take them back home. I re-lock the sliding door and go back to work.
Then, only a few hours later, I get another text that they got out again! Thankfully, my job is very understanding and just let me take the rest of the day off. So, I go pick up the one dog, the other still missing. I’m also worried about my cats if the door was left open. They’re indoor-only cats, so I was very concerned for their safety.
When I pull into the driveway to drop the one dog off, there’s the second one! Just hanging out in the front yard!
Lots of relief! Now just the cats to worry about…
Luckily, they didn’t go any farther than the backyard and came right inside when I called for them.
So, after a lot of stress and adventure, my fur family is back home, safe and sound, but I’m still kinda feeling a bit shook up. Whew. Thank god it’s all over now.
Thanks for listening!
Time to get a broom handle in that door. Or put the pooch to work. It’s bored.
You’re absolutely right, he needs a job or something. I’m still trying out things that keep him stimulated.
Activity is good for pups with active brains. Trials is fun. Like obstacle courses. I had a room mate once that trained his giant husky to pull him uphill on his skateboard. That dog was a beast. Even learning little “tricks” and things can be fun and stimulating for bored doggos. There are lots of things that can help you both get active and out into the community.
Oof, i can feel this. Any suspect on which naughty boi did the thing?
This little asshole. He’s way too smart for his own good!
Woof! Mine also figured out a 3 piece “patio” glass sliding door. Even with the middle pane blocking the others, he uses his nose to slide the others open. Little houdinis haha :)
I’m relieved to hear they’re back home safely :)
For your own peace of mind even, try finding more ways to fully secure the doors
That’s 100% my plan. I’m going to get a bar or something to put behind the sliding door so it can’t be opened when I’m gone.
As long as the door can be opened/broken in case of fire (or other internal disaster, e.g. toxic fumes) or there’s some other egress nearby. Please don’t create a trap.
Whew! That was stressful to read. Awhile back I looked at my window and saw my dog lying my in yard, out of her fence, I panicked even though she was safe then just knowing that she had been out running around. Btw you can buy a patio door security bar or just cut a board to size.
Dogs can be such tricky little devils! I’m glad your dog just found a new spot to chill instead of running away.
And yeah, definitely going to buy one of those security bars or something tomorrow.
