Docker is installed, now to… learn everything about hosting a server. I am not an IT professional nor a programmer of any type - I’m an electrician pushing 40 who wants fun, secure toys for my family and me.
So I’m open to any suggestions! I’d like to run my own Lemmy instance at some point, possibly Pixelfed or another Fedi app. Probably a Revolt too. After I make sure I do everything right.

Debian is a good base for a server, but most people don’t bother with a fancy desktop on their server 😅
The machine is probably going to be a bit expensive to run 24/7 due to the old CPU and probably unecessary GPU, but it depends on the electricity prices where you live.
Start with some basic things you actually want to use. It’s not hard and you can figure out most things with some persistence and web searches.
Yeah I just felt like fooling around with Plasma for a bit, ill probably just stick to Gnome most of the time. I’ll keep an eye on my power.
