    A guy from China (Rabban Bar Sawma) visited Europe in the the 13th century. He met the Eastern Roman Emperor, the King of France, the Pope etc.

    And that was China. China! North Africa and the Middle East were a relatively close boat trip. Vikings went to Constantinople.

    In the Roman empire a citizen from Numidia might serve in Germania. Throughout most modern, middle ages and classical history it’s quite possible to have non white people in Europe.
