I mean it’s Android, not Apple. If you don’t like the style, change it? I’ve got 4 different options on my phone

Bonus fuckery: they also changed how you summon Google Assistant! BY REPLACING THE POWER MENU WITH IT. Note: the “side button” is the power button.

You do not have the option to hold the home button for your assistant anymore. You can either a) have access to the power menu by holding the power button, or b) have access to the assistant by holding the power button.

I will never give Samsung another red penny for as long as I live. I’ll buy a goddamn landline first.

I have an S23U with the new update and there is an option for the side button for long press to bring up Bixby, Google assistant, or power menu under Advanced Features.

Yes, that’s what I was saying. You can either have your assistant or the power menu. Back when the assistant was assigned to the home button, you could have access to both.

If you use an assistant, I don’t, there still is the power menu access through the pulldown menu.

It is a dumb change, but the way I see it, most people don’t use the side button power menu access much. Having the power menu being a swipe and tap away isn’t much of a burden, but having an assistant access through less convenient means than the side button is a bigger burden for the typical use cases.

It’s not much of a burden, but the problem is that it’s still a burden. Holding the home button was never a less convenient means for accessing the assistant than holding the power button. No matter how you slice it, taking this option away makes for a worse user experience.

At least we aren’t subject to Apple’s vision where they decide how you use your phone for you and remove any options that conflict with their UI philosophy.

I bet there is a tweak that restores side button function to the old way.

I’m on One UI 7, the same version of OS that OP is apparantly on, I don’t find such option. I personally don’t mind that much, but I can see how it can be frustrating if you are like OP.

My mom has had 3 Samsung Android phones and loves them, so I know it works for some people. I’ve always hated they way they modified Android so I’ve avoided them, to each their own.

But I do think blaming Google/Android for it is a bit disingenuous. But I’m not gonna defend Google lol.

I searched for status notifications and it brought up all the options for me. But as someone else pointed out OP is on Samsung so they’re probably more locked down.

I also got OneUI 7 recently and it sucks how it doesn’t allow certain app widgets to be fully transparent anymore. :/
