OK, going with the flawed analogy…

It’s not just Canada, most “Western” countries have been doing this, hell, even the USA somewhat. And most of them are now at least toying with the thought that therapy was a waste, booze is much better anyhow, and having money in your pocket is more important than saving the planet.

And the meth is called far-right fear- and hatemongering populism.

    • Yeah, the problem is that all of these are bandaids. In an actual midlife crisis, all of these might help, but for most of us, the issues are systemic. No amount of personal change will get you out of it. Getting back with the analogy, we need to change the crony capitalist system. Anything else is just putting a bandaid. If we can fix it, maybe we can even drink in moderation sometimes.

I like the compromise that calls itself “social market economy” (soziale Marktwirtschaft). It’s not just a bandaid. But the fact that its precarious balance often seems to shift too far towards the market economy part would speak for your more radical approach.

A sign of the times that a German phrase sums up the root cause of the current rise of fascism — and in parentheses, no less. Full marks, citizen. 🤘🏼
