Their proxy service doesn’t work in China, I have been using it since the initial public beta release some 10 years ago and keep using it ever since. Neither the official client nor Telegram X for that matter. Signal’s “bypass blockage” function hardly works either, by the way. It’s VPN or bust here.

And sure, I can use a VPN, but that’s also illegal. So I can definitely break one law to break another, no problem.
