recently i stumbled with this banger here https://blogdaboitempo.com.br/2024/03/27/pele-negra-alucinacoes-brancas-capitalismo-ia-e-racializacao/.

but it is on brazilian portuguese, even tho translation tool built in browser do the job, the article itself is of low circulation due to language and the target audience, so i want to know if there is a website where i can post a hand crafted translation to be easier to find for people outside brazil.

also im new into this kinda of thing, do i need to get permission from the author or something?

Some ideas as to where to publish: ProleWiki may be interested in translated works. Red Sails also publishes quite a few English translations of various pieces, but I am not sure if they post reader suggestions. You can also make your own website quite easily and for free using something like Codeberg Pages. Some articles, as long as they’re not too long, are also posted directly on Lemmygrad.

As for the copyright, unless the original author explicitly includes a license on their website or in their article that allows copying (creative commons for example), you need permission to republish the work.

You can probably post it on ProleWiki (cc @[email protected])

Regarding permission, you can ask out of courtesy but it is not needed imo given that you credit the authors in your work. Don’t wait for them to respond to your email or whatever to begin working.

We’re actually studying the possibility of letting outside authors publish their essays and articles in our essays space. Haven’t entirely figured it out yet, but we will likely require the author’s permission before reposting, and rework the system a bit to let people know these essays were not written by our editors. You can start working on the translation already, before the author responds about permission.

We can also give it some hype through our socials. What is the essay about and why do you feel it’s important to share it? (Not a rhetorical question, I just can’t read Portuguese).

it is about how racism impacts technology and its bias into ai.

for staters when first prompted to generate a image of franz fanon, the ai generated a white caucasian man, only generated franz as his rly was when give a very detailed prompt about his appearance.

Sounds cool. Feel free to DM me once you have permission and a translated version (chatGPT is surprisingly not bad at all at doing that), and I can look at republishing on ProleWiki!
