They’re going to start Zoom calling us soon, I know it!
I used to get random spam teams calls at work before I quit that shithole, so that’s already happening.
thank god i live in a country where this doesn’t happen
and where is that
if only there was some sort of clue in my username
Sweden?
Swehili, Africa?
close, swaziland
Same in norway. The phone spam opt out works suprisingly well. Not had a unsolicited call in years… If not decades.
Use Signal.
Unfortunately, it’s not as established as telephony. Everyone that uses Signal has a phone number, but everyone that has a phone number doesn’t necessarily use Signal. This is especially true if you need to contact service.
Is this a joke I’m too European to unterstand?
I’m European and the only person I know who calls is my dad, the rest is marketing or scammers. With that said i only get 1 call or so per month.
Spam phone calls are so frequent in the United States that I have stopped accepting calls that are not in my contacts list point blank. If you want to call me on the telephone, you need to get my permission from me in person first, and I make NO exceptions.
People get called by phone numbers outside of their contacts?
10+ times per day every day year round, all hours of the day.
Unfortunately yes. My office phone forwards to my cell so I can stay home, trade off is I have to answer every call from random area codes
Check with your IT department to see if the system allows for forwarding with the caller ID specified as your office number so you can add that as a contact and know where the call originates from. That’s a pretty common feature in business telephony systems.
Not anymore I don’t.
A lot of young people just don’t answer the phone point blank because everyone they want to talk to uses some other messaging service and everyone they don’t want to talk to calls on the phone. Apparently this makes it hard for political pollsters to reach the youth demographic.
I live in France and get up to 5 spam calls daily. Telemarketers should get the death penalty.
Same for me in Italy.
I live in Germany and have had like two total in a decade
How nice for you. Clearly this post isn’t for you though.
Hi please change the title to the me_irl format otherwise I’ll have to remove the post 🤷♂️ that’s one of the only rules we have here. thank you!
Ok zoomer
Scammers are the scum of the earth.
please stop calling people. It’s a dead platform, it’s dumb and stupid. Just message them or something.
This is me, I don’t answer unless I know who’s calling, and even then it’s a toss up.
I block any call or text unless you’re in my contacts. I’m done playing. No notification for the blocked calls either.
Sorry, I didn’t miss your call, I just didn’t answer because you didn’t text me asking if it was ok to call me and then wait for my reply.
The ringing is them asking to speak to you. Your choice to answer or not is the reply. It does not require an additional bloody text on top you baby.
But what if whether it’s ok to call or not depends on who’s calling? By simply calling, all I know is the number. By sending a text, they can shortly introduce themselves.
Answer and see who it is? If you’re busy don’t answer. If you don’t want to talk to them after you find out who it is just tell them. It’s not hard.
“hey Greg, how are you doing man?? We haven’t talked in a while!”
“I’m sorry, I don’t want to talk to you right now”
hangs up
Yeah, it’s that easy and definitely won’t make people think you’re an asshole!
You say ‘hey sorry I’m in the middle of something, I’ll give you a bell back later’
What if it’s a number you don’t recognize and you pick up to realize it’s someone you don’t want to talk to? It’s 2024, people can be courteous and send a quick text, which is also not a big deal.
There is no reason to call. Put it in a text. Fuck, even my 72 year old mother knows that.
Sometimes you don’t have a choice though, like if you’re preoccupied and are away from your phone: for emergency reasons or not.
It does if you ever want me to pick up 🤷
Agreed. Maybe I’m different than all your downvoters cos I’m not from USA and phone operators are regulated and there are almost no spam calls…?
I’m from Italy and I had to block unknown number calls. I was getting like 3 a day at the worst times possible.
my phone is permanently on silent mode
Yup, same. I’m 6 years into Do Not Disturb and I gotta say, I’m never going back. I use my phone on MY terms, not what the advertisers or all the app notifications want of my attention. I feel like I’ve been able to be much more focused and productive in life without the interruptions.
And yes, Android supports exceptions for DND, so my wife or family members can call without issues, or specific app notifications I allow like some Discord DMs or specific server notifications.
There are specific people I let ring through because they do get to demand my immediate attention. There’s a single digit number of these people.
