Almost a year ago I bought a pocketbook with buttons. It served me pretty well for the constant bugginess. Then a few weeks ago it froze and I tried everything I could think of to get it to work. Days later my damn cat peed on it to spite my other cat. The company won’t reply to my emails. I’ve given up on it, but it would be nice to have an ereader again because of the books I started and don’t feel like reading on my phone or computer. I could just buy something off AliExpress, but I want some advice first. Any recommendations?
Anything that can run koreader without jumping through too many hoops is a fine choice. I hear good things about Boox but I haven’t been able to afford one yet. Note Air 3 C is a good bet especially if you like to read comics or pdfs.
I use Kobo ones, I had a Touch years ago and currently use a Clara HD, the software isn’t too fast (though maybe that’s different on newer models) but has always been pretty reliable for me, even on the Touch despite its age
Something I like is that it’s integrated with Pocket (the Mozilla-owned service) and can automatically sync articles you add to your list to the e-reader
If you find your kobo ereader sloe you can install koreader on it. Koreader is much more snappy than the stock interface.
Here to plug the boox ereaders. The neat part is they’re essentially android tablets with e-ink screens, so there’s not as much lock-in and of course there’s epub support. Their color e-ink is also super-cool tech
I’ll second the boox line of products. No need to go for the color e ink either for it to be very functional as an android tablet. I’d love to have a color one at some point, but I’m happy enough with the basic one and it’s lasted me quite a while.
If you get one with the pen it is quite nice for note taking as well.
That being said, if you just want to read e books, it’s not the cheapest option.
Cheapest solution would be to buy a used Kobo ereader and slap https://koreader.rocks on it.

Ty, my searches weren’t drawing up much.
