I know he’s a troll of some renown to people who browse Reddit, but is he in the habit of deleting stuff after he posts it? Did he have a bunch of people jump on him for it? I’m sure he didn’t change his opinion so what gives?

You need to make $100k annually just to have a moderately comfortable life living in some parts of NYC. So he’s offering him maybe 2.5-3 years of salary to leave.
Not even 1 year. Factor in that mayors have been in office for 12 years, and later careers are likely to also be lucrative, and anything less than $5M is not a serious offer.
