Better , except it’s not piped like libretube if you are aldready running a vpn then there is no issue (if you even want that kind of privacy of course) .
FYI: Newpipe is NOT a youtube fork. It’s an app build from scratch.

I think at this point, what’s needed is a wiki page comparing the various forks and options. I’m not a heavy *Tube user, and I can’t keep track.
AFAICT, there are at least five active Tube front-end apps:
- NewPipe
- NewPipe x Sponsorblock
- FreeTube (the only one that isn’t a NP fork)
- Tubular (how does this differ from MP x SB?)
- PipePipe
Active, committed maintainers are one of the most important features of any such tool, as Google constantly works to sabotage alt front-ends and timely work-around updates are critical. But some sort of feature comparison matrix would be nice.

Interesting. I’m still using NewPipe x Sponsorblock and haven’t had any issues with it. Any idea why the change? It looks more or less identical.
Just installed it. Seems pretty slick. Haven’t tried the import from youtube yet though

What makes it special for anime?
It has some anime streaming sites attatched along eith youtube if i am right. Which i don’t think i am .
Yeah it was initially built for anime fans . Even though i barely watch animes (the only real japanise made animes i have ever watched are One punch man and death note ) i still think it is a really good fork . And nowadays it seems they are not forking from newpipe anymore .
I’m using pipepipe and libretube,newpipe can’t view the live recordings on some content which is a shame but I think if libretube is more recommendable.
@slsemmt @THEDAEMON I’ve used libretube and was very useful. But now the app won’t work and I’ve tried to reinstall and then the phone doesn’t allow me. So now I’ve moved to pipepie. I think the phone manufacturer doesn’t like it. I’m using pixel 6a.

What am I doing wrong? I installed it, followed instructions to import my subscriptions, then went to the “what’s new” page and everything looks great. But then, trying to watch a video just results in endless spinning.

Sure, dragging down successfully refreshes the list of what’s new, and when I tap a video to watch, the comments section successfully loads and is scrollable, but the video pane itself just stays a black background with a white spinning/loading animation.
Ok what all settings have you messed with if you can’t remember clear the app data and try to watch a random vid . Let me know what happens .
It seems to be caused by something I’m blocking on my pi.hole (which is also using cloudflared for DNS). When I turn off wifi and use the phone network only, it works. Is it using rs6.net or sentry.io?

What is the api URL to get sponsor block working? I’ve tried like 4 different ones based on the docs, but can’t figure it out.
After I enabled Sponsorblock it took a couple of days for it to actually start working for some reason. But the default one (https://sponsor.ajay.app/api/)should work eventually.
Sadly i don’t use sponser block .
NewPipe x SponsorBlock uses this as default.

Why is this better than NewPipe? I much prefer apps that focus on 1 thing and dont support 20 additional services.
It’s great for people who like vocaloid because you can listen to your favorite songs across yt, niconico, and even bilibili.
I know a few different people who have a few of their songs made using vocaloid and other related software on yt but the majority of their work is on one of the other platforms and pipepipe is so much more convenient than having both the niconico app and bilibili app installed.
Because newpipe is now being rewritten so no one is maintaining it and pipepipe haveany features newpipe don’t .New pipe too support other services .
Newpipe is not being rewritten. They have chosen to do progressive improvements instead:

NewPipe is maintained. They just haven’t been adding many features recently. And Tubular is just new pipe with Sponsorblock and return YouTube dislike
I guess you could say kinda maintained . They just maintain it to keep it barely working and i support that because it wouldn’t matter in the end anyway as they are rewriting huge parts of their code.
