I never buy eggs. I don’t eat them. However I have a recipe I’d like to try, that requires an egg.
In the supermarket, small shops, and even the small farm shop I looked in, they come in minimum packs of six. If I buy six, five will be wasted into the bin.
Surely there’s somewhere that will sell me a single egg? I’d have thought the farm shop would but nope.
Or if not, is there something I can do with the other five other than eat them?
Ask a neighbor for an egg. Maybe give them $2 for one.
They’d probably appreciate a pound more.

Ask a friend or family member? Or just knock on a neighbor’s door and ask if they have a spare egg. You could offer to pay for it, but I feel like most people would happily just give you an egg if you said you needed one for a recipe.
Yeah, this would be my last resort. I’m not really close with my neighbours but I could probably mooch one off my family next time I’m over.

Saw an eleven-egged carton last time I went to my grocer, seemed like someone really just opened it then fucked off. Then again maybe they just saw the missing egg. Life’s little mysteries are all around us if you know where to look.
Not so much of a shop but often on country lanes you see eggs for sale outside people’s houses with a money pot for donations. Hens lay a lot of eggs and the owners need to get rid of them easily.
I think I have seen these come to think of it. Nice idea! I’ll keep an eye out. I’ve never used one but if they’re just loose and I can buy just one then these will be perfect. Thanks :D

You can make pancakes (and a variety of other breads). You can make mayonaisse. You can plant them and grow your own egg tree. That’s how you get eggplants.
You can freeze eggs, so if the recipe is good, you can make it 5 more times in the future?
Or as others have suggested - give the extra eggs to a neighbour or even your local soup kitchen or anywhere ese that serves cooked food to people in need, they might accept them (though maybe call and ask first to make sure), or as a last resort, leave them out for wild animals to eat?
Even unfrozen, eggs keep for months.
Morrisons used to do “buy as many eggs as you like”. It was ace! I haven’t been in there for a while so don’t know if they’ve stopped. But basically you could take a box and take as many eggs as you liked.
They were near the fruit and veg rather than with the other eggs (in Bedford, anyway).
Hopefully they’re still doing this.

Give them to your neighbors. Most households tend to use eggs in a decent amount…
I’d suggest looking for additional recipes that might make use of them so you can go for the six-pack. Could use them for an egg wash to do something like french toast, or for breading like on chicken fried steak.
Eggs are some of the most versatile foods to cook. They are used all over the place. As many have suggested.
But. Yeah it is very unlikely you will find anyone selling one. As almost everyone expects to buy in multiples of 6. There is not the demand for shops to open a box.
Your best bet is to talk to a few niebours. Odds are one of them is happy to sell you an egg if you explain why.
And you never know. You may make a local friend interested in cooking.
Smallest I’ve ever seen is 1/2 dozen, though, you can also get the tiny carton of egg thing too, it’s just scrambled though, so it depends on the recipe of course.
I’m sure I saw some shop that sold them in packs of 4 but since I don’t remember where I can’t really help.
