This is generally true, HOWEVER I still think the closed holders where the roll is supported from below (instead of a rod hoing through the middle) should be used “incorrectly” since it stops the roll from gaining momentum and unrolling when you aren’t careful enough.
Those don’t seem to be very common though, probably an Eastern Bloc thing. Anyway, I’m talking about one of these bad boys:
