    Typically reparations are paid after signing a treaty, a cease fire could be a step towards that.

      If an end of war with reparations was the goal, this is what Russia would request, not a ceasefire. A ceasefire is just a way to continue a war later with greater intensity.

        Why would a defending military give the invading military a time out?

        Putin started this whole mess all by himself.

      Typically the weaker person needs to give some concessions to not get obliterated during a war that the weaker person started.
