I generally don’t like sports anime – I didn’t like Haikyuu, I thought Tsurune was mid, and most shows of this kind bore me to death. But this season of Uma Musume somehow managed to pull me in. Every race felt unique, I was hyped for the competition, and the comedy bits were great, even though towards the end we’ve seen less of it. I’m really satisfied how this finale turned out. We finally have worthy competitors to Oguri and it makes me excited for the next cour, which was announced to air this fall.
What an intense episode! Love the reversal role. Tamamo took the role of the protagonist, while Oguri took the antagonist. That way, rather than end the first part with a sad defeat, instead they let us root for Tamamo and end it with a win!
Oguri was a great antagonist. She bears the title of the Beast. Undefeatable for the last six races. Her footsteps echoed fear to the other contestants. She was the one who pushed Tamamo to finally break her limit and entered the zone.
I’m with Bellno in this one, maybe we were a bit arrogant thinking Oguri will be invincible. It was hard to accept the loss. But hey, that was a great end to bridge to the second part. Oguri now has a new stake and goal!
here is your weekly March posting:
For those who don’t know, Uma Musume Pretty Derby Global was launched several days ago. Now, you can train your own Oguri with the 3-star selector ticket! Just be aware, building her isn’t as easy and smooth as the anime. I have yet to win the URA final with her.
Here’s my ID if you want to follow me in the game. Let’s be friend! (I have Super Creek’s support card):
3683 9579 4050Good on you for playing the game.
I rerolled for Fine Motion and Super Creek for quite a few hours, got salty that I can’t get both of them even after so many tries, and ragequited and uninstalled the game.
For what I’ve heard, the game is rather difficult, which means having sink an ungodly amount of time or - given that it is gacha - money into it, neither of which I have sufficient of.
Personally, I will try to support them in some other way.
Honestly I’m pretty lucky to get Super Creek in the first roll. I kinda have no reroll policy, so even if I didn’t get Super Creek I’d just go with whatever I got. Don’t want to sweat even before playing the game.
The game does need a lot of investment to be on the meta. I too don’t have the money and time so I play it casually rather than trying to keep up with the meta. I’m just happy building my uma with the limited resource I have. Heck, none of my uma have finished URA final yet.
I’m playing without having done any rerolling. I’ve won a run with only a couple horses, but I think the challenge is fun and if I really want a certain support, I can just borrow it. I really don’t think going in with a “win all the time” mindset is good for this game, maybe just do a daily/weekly run and progress over time as you get a better gene pool to select from. No real reason to sink a bunch of time in if you dont want to or can’t.
I am glad the last race here turned out the way it did. If Oguri stayed winning the whole time, the show would turn stale real quick.
That’s why we don’t have Umamusume anime centered on Symboli Rudolf, or why Superman shows are hard to make. When people know that you are unbeatable, they would find it boring.
Regardless of the way it ended, the race still delivered on the hype as usual. The ending of this last episode also set the anime up nicely for future arcs, with rivals in the form of Tamamo Cross, Dicta Striker and the foreign horse.
Thankfully, there’s only a one-season break before part 2 of Cinderella Gray; I can’t wait to see more of Oguri. This is the only Umamusume anime I found to be on par with Pretty Derby season 2.
On a side note, Legend Changer is the latest song that I’m obsessed with. I thought there’s no Umamusume song that can surpass the peak that is Umapyoi Densetsu. But then I discovered Legend Changer and fell in love with it instantly.
I know the tradition is to play Umapyoi Densetsu as the ending song of the last episode for Umamusume anime, but it would be cool if they switch it up with Legend Changer. They have already started changing their formula for story-telling - from the moe-cuteness of Pretty Derby to the more intense drama of Cinderella Gray. They might as well embrace the change all the way by updating their signature ending song.

I know Oguri was supposed to be the center in that Legend Changer concert, but I can’t stop looking at Rudolph. She just has that kind of aura 😭
Done!
