An adjacent manager found out about my new role and rang me earlier with a heartfelt congratulations.

This means one of two things (or both)

My old boss wasn’t well liked.

    I am very liked.

The amount of support I’ve received today from all over the organisation made me tear up nearly.

Is this what it feels like to be human?

Dunno about ‘human’, but this is def how it feels to be the hero. Enjoy it while it lasts, which will not be long. I speak from experience here. Once you start doing things the way they should be done, expect a backlash.

It shouldn’t be a super power to feel supported but unfortunately it is… The great thing is that you now know how it feels, you can be a spreader of it and watch people bloom.💐

G’day mates I’m back and I’m braindead. Happy to say immigration/e-gates were much less of a shit show than late last year even though there were still a couple of kiosks out of action. Seems like all airports are moving primarily towards facial recognition, had so many photos taken

Thank you! And in typical Melbourne welcome someone tries to cut in front of the driver merging onto an onramp almost causing an accident. 😆

I’ve had no caffeine for quite a while now and slept through the tea service on the plane. Think I’ll just coast through the rest of day with a hot chocolate so I catch up on some quality sleep tonight.

I wish to report that I had some super juicy and delectable gyoza for my last meal before heading to the airport.

Now looking forward to see how my extremely hasty literally last minute first ever chilli ferment is going. Those scotch bonnets almost smelled like carrots when I blitzed them, so fresh. I hope nothing bad has grown and that no receptacles have exploded

Yeah it looks ok! There’s a bit of fuzzy stuff on the top/exposed side of the ziploc bag (filled with water) that I used to weigh down the chillos. Haven’t moved the bag out of fear that it’ll drop a few spores into the mix. I’m too tired to think about it today but have questions to ask you tomoz. I’ll need to taste it and maybe run a pH test before I decide what to do with it next.

That’s good! I hope you’re well rested. Sucks about the accom and energy/momentum, but that seems to just be something that comes along with longer trips, especially when you’re changing accommodation every night/every few nights. My current trip is feeling kinda similar in terms of the accommodation. Long story short, because of my age I need an adult with me, and because of safety concerns and just general privacy, we needed 2 bedrooms rather than 1 with 2 beds, but the hotel was booked. They had a cancellation so it worked out for all of us, but it was stressful while we were waiting to hear back.

And dinner went late last night and couldn’t get the early night I was hoping for, so it was hard to enjoy the day today when I was tired from the time I woke up until I slept

We got a royal welcoming committee in Donald. I think the entire town was here to greet us! All the school kids were lined up waving to us, all the industrial business we passed had nobody working - everybody was at the fence waving to us. Every level crossing there were 5-10 people waving

I’ve been on many heritage trains, but I’ve never had a reception quite like that

I’m not sure anyone told them we were running 50 minutes late and our 30-40 min stop was going to turn into a 10 min one though, so I think we disappointed them a little :(

They all lined up to wave is goodbye 🥺

I was offered the role. Then I asked if my expected pay had been considered, that it was more than my current pay. I was told it hadn’t been, but that they’d get back to me shortly. Got back to me: "look I spoke to the big boss, and he says now your current role and the one Ur going for are considered equal (my current role used be considered lesser), your pay is appropriate and would remain the same. I told them I would consider that over the long weekend.

Also just learned that ANOTHER person quit in the role I’m going for, bringing the total to four open positions, and as far as I know, I’m the only internal applicant. The fuckers have the gall to not offer me anything.

Unless you want the challenge or you’re going to come out of it with some sort of advantage I don’t see why you would take on a role with more or greater responsibility and challenges with no change in pay.

Wow. It seems all the other social sites are in a competition for who can become the worst the fastest. Reddit has jumped on the selling data to AI bandwagon, as has Facebook and Instagram. Tumblr is still banning trans women while leaving up nonconsensual deepfake nudes and is also now crawling with minors. Twitter is uh… Twitter. Sorry, X.

Cursing my shitty body and dodgy area. Never have I wished to touch grass more.

Never realised how bad it is not having my own washing machine until now—testing positive a week later. I ran out of towels near the start as I was due for a wash and I just ran out of clean clothes then.

My only symptom now is reduced smell and I feel fine in every other respect, but I’m not gonna be that person who rocks up to the laundromat covid positive—it can wait (hopefully).

Don’t forget to roll the clothes up in towels and stand on them to get as much moisture out as possible after. I handwashed my clothes when the machine broke and they didn’t dry quickly enough to avoid getting mouldy

Edit: If this might drag on or you might get sick again, consider a portable washing machine. It might let you do a small load more easily

I’m not sure, I haven’t used one before but once bought one for a friend who was in a tight spot. You might want to check which features each of them have as the very cheapest (Big W) says it’s a camping one. Also check Amazon and Ebay to see if they’re any cheaper as sometimes it can be the exact same thing as in the chain store

Edit: Ok it says the camping one comes with an AU adaptor so might be ok? But I didn’t want to miss mentioning that.

They are actually not cheaper on ebay. But the one I got my friend looked like this

Soooo our train has stopped at woomelang, but it stopped after the crossing signal on a little temporary platform thing. It’s been sitting here for 30 minutes triggering the level crossing and we still have another half hour here… Nobody’s moving it, it’s just idling on the platform setting off the crossing alarms.

There’s no barriers, but people are really confused about what they’re meant to do
