And the rest:

And the thread in question:

https://lemmy.world/post/11713611

So we need to have a long and serious talk about the authoritarian chucklefucks you all are allowing to dominate your platform, for this is an example of this flagrant bullshit someone else DMed me recommending I go to admins about, but we all know the admins are a group of Good Ole Boys who will do nothing but protect the mod. 🤦

So why is everyone putting up with this? Did we not leave Reddit to get away from power tripping scumbags? Do people not want a community ruled by the consent of its people? People were flagging shit based on bad faith arguing which last I checked falls under that sub’s first rule.

Oh, but telling a mod “no” is unacceptable. 🤦

We all need to come together and create an actual democratic platform because this is blatant authoritarianism and is not acceptable.

Oh, icing on the cake:

They were ignoring reports of other people violating rule 1 and then abusing their power to silence criticism. They threatened another user who did the same thing:

Which particular comments are you talking about? I thought the discussion was about bad faith arguments, not lack of respect?

Read the whole-ass thread and the screenshots, my man. He was doing that to other people, not just myself, which is the reason why I made the thread.

It’s obvious you don’t care about me, but you have a LARGE obligation to care about your other users and to not allow mods to abuse their power and lord over innocent people. This bullshit is NOT why we came to Lemmy.

I did read the whole-ass thread, but I don’t see any reference to comments that should have been deleted because of rule 1. The rules of that community do not have rules against bad-faith arguments. Maybe it should, but it is shitposting after all. I don’t really see the issue.

And I do care about your feeling about the modding, otherwise I wouldn’t really be having this conversation, now would I?

Bad faith arguing obviously IS a violation of Rule 1 and one his own users accept given that’s apparently what people were reporting others for, and it’s the commonly accepted definition of the term anyway.

Calling out a mod obviously can’t be a violation of Rule 1 because it leads to abuses like this. It’s not about me. It’s about the other guys he was threatening, and using me as an emotional cudgel to bully the other users into compliance.

If that’s what you think acceptable moderation is on your platform, you ought to step down, too. You can prove me right by banning me for saying that, or you can preserve the integrity of your platform by actually doing something about him. Your choice.

I see. Well two remarks about that:

one his own users accept given that’s apparently what people were reporting others for

That doesn’t really make sense to me, the existence of a report doesn’t mean that users agree.

Second remark, I agree that it wasn’t classy to threaten a ban like that, I told the mod this. Do I think this shows that the mod is inherently incapable of modding like you seem to do? No, as mods are also humans with emotions.

I don’t see how you could think that I would ban you? I don’t ban people for discussing stuff with me.

Because apparently that is considered acceptable behavior when it very obviously should NOT be.

If mods can just do whatever they want, there’s no point to using the platform. It’s literally no better than Reddit, and in fact is worse in many ways if mods aren’t policed or regulated in any meaningful way.

You admins need to come the fuck out and put in place rules that you will enforce on mods to protect communities from abuses of power like that. It’s the only just way.

I can’t really say much more then that I disagree with your assessment that our rules are to lax. We do our best to balance giving communities the possibility to regulate themselves, and the need to regulate stuff on an instance level. The nice thing about lemmy is that if you don’t like the way we do stuff, you can always move to another community or even instance, in that way alone it’s better here than on reddit (just to make sure I’m understood correctly, that doesn’t mean we don’t want you to be here).
