House Bill 156 would define gender affirming care to be "not in the best interest" of youth in the state. The bill affects guardianships, custody fights, and child protective services.
Horrific and unconscionable that some state legislators are willing to traumatize kids against the advice of medical professionals… for some people’s votes. I really hope this gets shut down.
Kids aren’t allowed to do many things because society deems them too young. Smoking, drinking, going to war, working, gaining access to certain medication.
Allowing them to transition before 18 is akin to child abuse, and I applaud Wyoming for this.
Do you also think they shouldn’t be allowed to have vaccines, or get casts for broken bones, or surgery and chemotherapy in case of cancer? I’d like to understand where you draw the line for setting your judgement against the consensus of medical experts.
I’m not even sure it’s for votes anymore. Ten or fifteen years ago I could believe that they were pandering for votes. These current “legislators” seem more like true believers and less like con men. As it seems to get worse each election cycle.
Understandable. The reason I still think it is though is that for persons above a certain level of wealth, laws about social issues have no meaning. They’re not good, not bad, just irrelevant to them.
That’s why the same wealthy donors fund politicians of both sides; parties that promises human rights protections, and parties that promise to dismantle such rights. The people politicians are answering to don’t have a reason to care either way. They can be and do whatever they want and unlike the rest of us, their money guarantees their safety.
Speaking for myself at least, I find the political world makes a lot more sense when you assume that the typical politician doesn’t believe in anything but money. All of us in every marginalized group are just chess pieces to them. Or put another way, we’re buttons they can press to get the desired type of outrage reaction that distracts the public from noticing how they’re being screwed on particular given day.
