      I’m a bit confused by the map because in the UK our officers usually carry a baton, spray or in some cases a tazer. They’re absolutely not unarmed.

      Most don’t carry a gun, but I’d also imagine the vast majority of the time they’re not dealing with criminals with guns.

        That’s because we have gun control, which I’m told apparently doesn’t work.

        Americans are often baffled to know that if you’ve got a good enough reason to have a gun in the UK, you can have one. We just don’t dole them out like they’re laptops

            I mean we have our own problems—if you want to sign up to a predatory loan, sure you can have a laptop

      Because you don’t need to threaten someone with death for most crime.

      Most NZ police have firearms locked in their vehicles, but not on their person.

      Speaking from experience in Ireland, they are still armed with batons, pepper spray and other non lethal measures, along with generally being able to talk people down, who are armed with knives. In the admittedly rare cases of gun violence, we have Armed Response Units who do carry weapons.
