Share your shave of the day!

  • Tuesday, November 5, 2024: Zingari Zischtig

Bon Monsieur is glorious, and very different from the late Autumn Ash. This was the first shave with the Karve since a very long time – comfortable, but not as close as with a straight. Also a rather old blade. Maybe I should explore a bit more my DEs.

    Have a good night!

    05.11.2024 - Tobacco Tuesday

    • Brush: AP Shave Co. Snakeskin handle w/ 26 mm Silksmoke Flattop/Fan hybrid knot
    • Razor: Leaf Thorn
    • Blade: snapped KCG
    • Lather: E&S Rasage - Shaman
    • Post-Shave: Thayer’s Original toner; Alterra men natural ASB

1 pass plus “buffing” on the head; 1 pass on the face. A solid, comfortable shave.

Another themed thing, but just by accident. Figured that I want another tobacco scent today, but opted for one of my newer soaps with tobacco as one of the many notes in a complex fragrance. Shaman smells like luxurious furniture or a really high-class candy store (the kind you only visit to buy something as a gift). The base is very good once you load heavy, very thick and rich lather (as in: this makes my skin feel protected and good even after wiping it off).

I remembered why I ultimately abandoned wearing a moustache & goatee combo and settled for just the Frank Zappa/Doc Holiday combo of stache and soul patch instead: I obsess way too goddamn much about symmetry of the goatee part. But even as much as I want to shave it down, I need to wait - I’m currently dealing with a few pimples (perhaps I am not as well suited to write about skincare after all?) and a particularly troublesome one sits directly on my chin. I’ll need to wait until that thing has healed, but today’s single pass face shave was used to assert dominance. Like it or not, chin - sooner or lat(h)er, you’ll get the razor! 😈

Sending out my thoughts & good wishes over to our american friends; I sure don’t envy you folks only having the choice between plague and cholera - having to choose “the lesser of two evils” instead of your real political affiliation sucks. Stay positive, stay calm and keep on keeping on 🤝🏻

After a while, cynicism gets to you and idealism becomes less important. The goal becomes how to fare well with whomever comes to power. I suspect, though, that one candidate may not know the quote “hell hath no fury like a woman scorned”. We’ll see.

    November 5, 2024 - FLS

    • Brush: Omega - 10048 boar
    • Razor: Gillette - Super Speed Black Tip
    • Blade: Gillette - Perma-Sharp (1)
    • Lather: Chiseled Face - Pine Tar
    • Post: Barrister and Mann - Roam Two AS splash
    • Post: Stirling - Glacial Unscented AS balm
    • Frag: Barrister and Mann - Roam Two EdT

I had a very rushed shave in between meetings this morning.

Pine Tar always feels great on my skin, which was welcome after the irritation I experienced last night.

Have a good day y’all, and try to stay positive. Elections always cause so much anxiety, but the world will go on.

DEux for Twosdays 05 Nov 2024

    • Brush: Zenith - 506 N XS (extra soft horse)
    • Razor: Wolfman WR2 (1.55 mm SB / 1.25 mm OC)
    • Blade: Polsilver
    • Lather: Noble Otter — Thé Noir et Vanille
    • Post Shave: Noble Otter — Thé Noir et Vanille

Delightful evening shave with Thé Noir et Vanille. This was by first love-on-first-sniff soap and was instrumental in my descent down the rabbit hole. I couldn’t believe that I had completely missed the category of delightful smelling shave gear and went on a rampage for a while there. Good times.

    November 5, 2024 - SLS

    • Brush: Zenith - B21 boar
    • Razor: Gillette - Super Speed Black Tip
    • Blade: Gillette - Perma-Sharp (2)
    • Lather: Barrister and Mann - Seville
    • Post: Pinaud - Clubman AS splash
    • Post: Ginger’s Garden - Unscented AS balm (+menthol)
    • Frag: Mäurer & Wirtz - Tabac EdC

Tonight I felt like combining some comforting barbershop-esque scents. (Does Tabac count as a barbershop scent?) It was a long night – some comfort felt appropriate.

My wife and I spent the evening with friends watching the election results trickle in, and to say we were disappointed is an understatement. Gutted is more like it.

Life will go on, but I’m concerned about the direction it seems we’ll now be pointing.

Do good for those around you, that’s the most important thing.

DE for Twosdays 05 Nov 2024

    • Brush: Zenith - 506 N XS (extra soft horse)
    • Razor: Wolfman WR2 (1.55 mm SB / 1.25 mm OC)
    • Blade: Polsilver
    • Lather: Noble Otter – 茉莉綠茶
    • Post Shave: Gentleman’s Nod – Musahi
    • Fragrance: Giorgio Armani – Thé Yulong

Delicious tea accords for this very early morning shave. Noble Otter’s tea scents really resonate with me, and 茉莉綠茶 filled a hole I didn’t know my den had. The base isn’t the most forgiving to lather well, but the extra soft Zenith horse is perfect for these situations. The fat horse hair bristles a really slow latherers, never froth, and feel nice.

The gentle Wolfie with the big gap was a joy to use as always, but now it’s time to take the early train for a meeting with customers who live in very inconvenient time zones. Such is life.
