07.11.2024 - In Stag we trust

    • Brush: Omega Roma Colosseo 31 mm
    • Razor: Stando Perun
    • Blade: King C. Gillette
    • Lather: Chiseled Face - Midnight Stag
    • Post-Shave: Chiseled Face - Midnight Stag ASB

2-pass head shave. A really good shave today.

What happens if everything around you seems to turn to shit and chaos? You fall back on the things you know you can trust. Your Ol’ Reliable. To me, that’s Midnight Stag. A dark, dank and very polarizing scent of leather, smoke, musky notes and freedom. It’s definitely not for everyday wear, but once in a while it really shines. The balm seems to have gone bad… but no big loss, as it contains paraffin and dimethicone. More space for new stuff.
I like the simple CF base. Comparable to Stirling IMHO and just very easy to whip up a nice lather with.

I also went through with my plan to cut my facial hair down into just moustache and a triangular soul patch. Everything was almost healed, but I didn’t want to wait another day. Put some witch hazel toner and a menthol balm on the facial skin, so I hope it’ll recover enough to give it a proper shave tomorrow.

So what chaos? Apart from the abysmal news from the US election, my country’s government coalition broke apart late last night. Read about it here from a credible source Funny how yesterday I actually wrote about my own concerns for our general elections next year and today I woke up to these news. Now it’s sure that I and many others will vote far earlier than September 2025. Of course the old government was very unpopular and incompetent, but the worst were the neolibs (FDP) IMHO. If we really get Merz next year, it sucks. He’s a billionaire politician and a warmonger. Diplomacy isn’t his strong suit as he’s far removed from the ordinary folk in our country in his views. The far-right will also have gains again and I hate that… but it is what it is.

    Thursday, November 07, 2024: SLS

    • Brush: Simpson - T2 Trafalgar 24mm Synthetic
    • Razor: Merkur - 34C
    • Blade: Bic - Chrome Platinum (1)
    • Lather: Barritser and Mann - Rhapsody (Soft Heart base)
    • Post: Barrister and Mann - Rahpsody Aftershave Balm
    • Post: Ginger’s Garden - Unscented AS balm (+ menthol)
    • Frag: Stirling - Stirling Gentleman EdT

A lovely end to the day. We made it to Friday, and I’m looking forward to a relaxing weekend. The Rhapsody soap and balm are a winning combination, and the Stirling Gentleman EdT pairs really well with the scent.

    Thu 07 Nov 2024

    • Brush: Wild West Brushworks – Copper Shadow with Timberwolf knot
    • Razor: Ever-Ready Streamline
    • Blade: Personna GEM PTFE
    • Lather: Catie’s Bubbles – Reflection
    • Post Shave: Catie’s Bubbles – Reflection

I really enjoy the CB premium base, and Reflection has a slightly (and weirdly delicious) acrid note that I can’t place, but that I recognise in Armonía, too. Nice evening shave puzzle.

DFTR is on the top of my list for CB soaps. It is a perfect fit for my circumstance, and for my scent preferences. I’m sure I’ll just blind-buy it. I like the premium soap base and I like all the notes in the scent description.

It sounds like it may be right up your alley (at least in my mental gcgallant model 😅)

I’ll also blind but it at some point. Maybe soon if there’s a Black Friday sale

    November 7, 2024

    • Brush: Stirling 24mm Synthetic
    • Razor: Gillette Tech (Z-4)
    • Blade: Wilkinson Sword Classic (1)
    • Lather: Chicago Grooming Co. - Caoba - Soap
    • Post Shave: Pinaud - Clubman - Aftershave
    • Post Shave: Goodfellow & Co. - Face Lotion - Kelp & Sea Mineral

Travel shave, but I checked a bag so I get the benefit of using a DE.

This Goodfellow lotion is kept in my travel dopp bag, but I love it and plan on buying a second one for use at home. It’s a thicker consistency but goes on smooth. Slightly thicker than Stirling Balm, closer to DG Liniment (but not nearly as greasy).

    • Brush: AP Shave Co Lemondrop 28mm SynBad

    • Blade Holder: Wolfman Razors WR2/WRH2 (setting: 1.05mm gap)

    • Blade: Gillette 7 O’Clock SharpEdge (Yellow) (8)

    • Lather: Saponificio Varesino - Cubebe - Soap

    • Aftershave: Saponificio Varesino - Cubebe - Aftershave

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

First shave of the day and off-theme, but I have a second shave coming later.

With SV, this was most definitely a luxury shave. I’m enjoying BBS November much more than I ever enjoyed No-Shave November.

Thursday, November 07, 2024: FLS - International Stout Day

    • Brush: Omega - 10048 boar
    • Razor: Gillette - Super Speed Black Tip
    • Blade: Gillette - Perma-Sharp (3)
    • Lather: Barrister and Mann - Lavanille
    • Post: Chiseled Face - Midnight Stag AS splash
    • Post: Stirling - Glacial Unscented AS balm
    • Frag: Chiseled Face - Midnight Stag EdP

I don’t have any soaps with stout as an ingredient, but this shave was full of vanilla, oak, smoke, and darkness. I think it fits the bill.

I love the scent of Lavanille. Dark, mysterious, and rich. It’s one that I might get a full set of when the sample is out.

    • Lather: Abbate Y La Mantia – Koké
    • Post Shave: Abbate Y La Mantia – Koké
    • Fragrance: House of Mammoth / Noble Otter / Declaration Grooming – Cerberus

Koké is one of my luckier blind buys. Heavy floral, a bit sweet, some pear and musk, really lovely stuff. Works well with Cerberus, too.

    Nov 7, 2024 - Lavendursday: FitD

    • Brush: Chisel & Hound Brilliance 26mm v23 Fanchurian Badger Knot
    • Razor: Aylsworth Razors Drakkant Ti
    • Blade: Gillette Platinum [13]
    • Lather: Dr. Jon’s Shaving Soap Co. - Flowers in the Dark - Soap (Vegan)
    • Post Shave: Summer Break Soaps - Woodshop - Aftershave
    • Fragrance: Summer Break Soaps - Woodshop - Eau de Parfum

The dark, woody lavender from Flowers in the Dark never fails to satisfy. Woodshop played on the wood notes and took it to another level.
