Motorsport’s governing body wants to change its rules to limit the ways its leadership can be held to account for bad governance.
A set of revisions to the statutes governing the audit and ethics committees has been circulated to member clubs to be approved at a vote of the FIA general assembly on 13 December.
These would ensure that any ethics complaints were overseen by the FIA president and president of its senate, rather than the senate itself.
And they would remove the power of the audit committee to investigate financial issues independently.
Fuck MBS.
Anyone have a non FiA series they would recommend that isn’t Indycar? The constant commercial interruptions completely kill Indycar for me so I just watch the race recaps.
No, there is no motorsport where money doesn’t matter.
Commercial breaks? What about “Sting Ray Bob’s Team Goodheart Animal Health Centers car is coming in for a new set of Firestone sticker reds and a new tank of Shell racing fuel!”
Don’t get me wrong that stuff is hot garbage too but I could mute the TV and watch the racing if it weren’t for the picture in picture ads and the other fuckery they pull. It’s super annoying and drives me away from the live broadcast.
I watched some GT World Challenge races this year that were kinda great but its sort of awkward to watch. I find their YouTube confusing and they also post spoiler highlights almost instantly after races so fuck you if you’re not watching live, I guess. Lots of endurance races too which - while great - are less convenient a watch than a 2-3 hour race.
If you’re okay with sports car racing series, there’s Japan’s Super GT and North America’s IMSA SportsCar Championship. I don’t really follow these 2 series, but I’ve heard good things about them, especially the latter.
I’ve actually been watching a fair amount of IMSA on YouTube this year. It’s pretty good racing most of the time.
SuperGT is a series I’d completely forgotten about. I’ll have to see what’s going on these days. Thanks!
No problem!
There’s also the DTM but they kinda lost their unique appeal and are more akin to a regular GT3 series these days, as far as I can tell. The Intercontinental GT Challenge, on the other hand, seems pretty interesting, when looking at its calendar. I mainly follow the Nürburgring 24 Hours but am keen on watching the other races.
I’m currently watching WEC these days, which is pretty fun, but that’s good to know about IMSA. Will have to check out some races.
