  • The fuck do you mean am I for real? Yes let’s compare this group of people getting arrested by “law enforcement officers” because “trust me bro, they’re criminals and need to be deported,” with this group of people being arrested by law enforcement officers because “trust me bro, they’re criminals and need to go to prison,” shall we?

One group gets no trial, the other gets pressured into pleading guilty regardless of whether they actually did the thing they were arrested for, gets as little as 5 minutes with their public defender depending on the location, and can still end up losing everything even if they’re acquitted because of how long they were held for. Oh yeah, that’s due process alright.

Of course ICE is the battle we need to fight right now, but let’s not fucking pretend that this is some fresh horror we’ve never seen before. They just feel like they can get away with being more bold with it because “they’re illegals” where they don’t feel that way with poor people yet. They still feel the need to pretend we get due process.

It’s a distinction without a difference. At the end of the day both groups are still random people the government has said “These are bad people trust us,” and have not proven it. Pretrial detention still definitionally means they’re being held without trial. It’s just been decided it’s okay in one situation and not the other. What does it matter if someone is theoretically “awaiting trial” if in practice they are just waiting the rest of their lives?

Yes, the immigration detentions are worse. But both are still fundamentally denying due process to those detained.

  • Oh yeah, for sure. Personally I see Carter as the “good version” if you can call it such a thing of the “Do-Nothing Democrat” if that makes sense. The thought that basically all Democrats have to do is be faithful stewards of the status quo and allow the arc of the universe to slowly bend towards justice. To tinker around the edges letting incrementalism and institutionalism carry them forward.

Then as time wore on more and more the Democrats would start saying “why shouldn’t I enrich myself a little? After all, all we really have to do is keep the institutions going and they’re doing that just fine on their own,” until you get to the ghouls of today. Where they’re there because they deserve to be there, and they deserve to be there because they’re there. All the while lining their own pockets and saying “Fuck you, I got mine,” to everybody else.

  • Not only is it real, I saw a video that his team cut together of the moment like it was a damn Play of the Game highlight of him “owning” the Republicans. Words cannot express the depths of my hatred for Democratic leadership at this moment. This bill is going to be one of if not the most catastrophic pieces of legislation ever passed and THIS is all their so-called “resistance” amounts to?

I hate them and their strategy of “Do nothing, give the Republicans enough rope to hang themselves, then make it the responsibility of the voters to get rid of them so they don’t have to promise anything or stand for anything.” They gave 'em though rope alright, except they’re not hanging themselves, they’re diving off a cliff and the rope is tied around our waists too.

Huh TIL… That’s actually kinda funny to me since the tail end of my time working retail happens to be when I first started developing gynecomastia. I’m nonbinary so it never bothered me but I found out shortly after when my doctor was trying to figure out another issue that I’ve got really low T levels so it’s funny to me that there’s technically a remote possibility that working retail caused that whole thing.

Like, get enough people signing up or youre fired push.

I used to work at a place that was like this with their loyalty card subscription. The worst part was that only US residents were eligible for it but the last location I worked at was right next to the Canadian border so we got a ton of Canadian customers. Management however would still count all of those as missed sales even though we literally couldn’t sign them up for it. Too high a ratio of missed sales and you started losing hours up to them letting you go.

Not only that but if you started recognizing Canadian bank cards and didn’t still try to sell them on the membership that they couldn’t sign up for you’d get in trouble for that too. So we were forced to be super aggressive with it on those we could sell to if we didn’t want to get in trouble for poor performance. Was totally not worth minimum wage with no commission. I was so glad to finally quit that job.

  • Yes, but keep in mind you have to balance this against not tolerating bad actors who will prey upon your understanding. I’ve met plenty of “slow and dumb” people who really just have no intention of ever getting it right and make no effort to do so while claiming that they’re trying their best. It takes wisdom to recognize the difference.

Some people take baby steps to come to your side, others need to be dragged kicking and screaming to the correct side.
