They usually have these at rest stops on highways in America, pretty convenient for road trips and such and I trust the state to actually keep them properly stocked.

It’s so much more costly to run development on a massive super cluster than to just have a room of 10 developers somewhere in Bangaldesh bash out some working code in a day.
The other thing is that we’re seeing unprecedented levels of slop being pushed out to production codebases. Codebases that are gonna become the backbone of companies for decades to come. Someone will have to one day be able to understand the slop and fix it.

This is total BS and this person has never had to live on a low wage. That $15/hr becomes $10/hr after taxes and health insurance (of which an increasingly small portion is given back to you in services), then rent takes another $7.50 off ($1200/mo) leaving you with $2.50/hr to live. That’s $400/month for gas, groceries, savings, and entertainment/shopping.
With a single basket of groceries frequently pushing $65-80 with inflation, you really only have about $100 left max for everything else.
This whole scheme is meant to force you to use consumer credit services. Ones that will compound your shortfall in interest making you a permanent debt slave to the credit agencies.
This is why programmers frequently end up in the weird conservative/liberal camp. It’s the closest to ‘if you can dream it you can do it’ anyone can get while still laboring.

We had one running things when I started where I’m at and thank God I was able to push them out. Just an absolutely awful person to work with and a Disney adult to boot.
I noticed that they kept presenting all my work as their own to the owners of the small company, so I started drafting up documention of my work for the owners and giving that to them, then telling that Engineer what I’d done.
Lo and behold, the owners come to me a day later asking why the Engineer was presenting something that I had shown them beforehand as their own work. Luckily they sided with me and I was allowed to challenge them on basically everything going forward and they were gone within a month.
I’ve worked with a few professional engineers in my line of work, and they’ve all been pretty awful. They tend to do the bare minimum and push a huge amount of technical decision making onto the lower level drafters and designers. Most of them just want to stamp a page and get paid, but aren’t afraid to criticize the work of others without ever offering good solutions.
Getting them set up with a Python development environment and a few tutorials is a good start. Have them try and script up something simple that’s related to something they like.
