"Elites use identity, particularly national identity, as a way of advancing their own interests, often against the interests of the populations that they pretend to represent. In other words, “national” conflicts are often an illusion which mask more substantial class conflicts.

The Israel Palestine conflict is a stark example of this, where nationalist elites manipulated their respective populations into a path of endless violence and conflict for almost 150 years now, sabotaging potential for peace and cooperation at every turn.

But before we can understand this, we need to get an ABC of the conflict, to get a grasp of the basic events, and the conflicting historical narratives that Israelis and Palestinians learn, which interpret all of these events in completely different ways, with opposite moral implications."
