Haiti paid reparations to France (slave owners) for 122 years after fighting for and gaining independence.
Dessalines didn’t go far enough
The same happened with the Netherlands in our colonies of Suriname and the Antilles. Part of the compensation was that slaves still had to work for ten years after the “abolition” of slavery
