Not to sound like a reddit-logo user but this might have been enough Internet for me for the day. I’m not online anywhere else so I have no idea how much traction things like this get in the mainstream, and it gives me anxiety to think about this being a popular opinion in real life.

It’s ridiculous how quickly liberals will jump to whitewashing fascism. When Hitler ran, he lost, and it was an economic liberal who appointed him as part of what amounted to an anticommunist coalition. Furthermore, those who did vote for Hitler (and we can say those who voted for Nazis generally, since even the “left wing” was just using a different framework to condemn all Jewish people), the Holocaust’s specific form was undecided but Hitler was screaming in Mein Kampf about the need for Europe to have no more ethnic Jews, and “the Jewish Question” was a standard element of political discourse where basically any member of the Nazi Party would give you this or that reason to reach the same basic conclusion.

So they are telling two lies pulling in opposite directions – exaggerating Hitler’s popularity and then absolving his supporters – where the only real commonality is whitewashing fascism. It’s seriously just Nazi apologia.

Reminded of this convo from “The Alliance that never was”

The Soviet press attaché, A. A. Smirnov, was at the German foreign ministry on July 31x and met the deputy head of the press bureau, B. von Stumm. Germany had “no aggressive plans against the Soviet Union,” Stumm said.

“We haven’t forgotten what Hitler wrote in his book [Mein Kampf],” replied Smirnov.

“Ach, that,” exclaimed Stumm, “there’s a big difference between what is said and what is done in practice. The book was written in prison, a long time ago, hastily … what’s written in that book is out of date, and we shouldn’t take it seriously.”?? But Mein Kampf with its visions of eastern conquest was never far from the Soviet mind.

Fascists get so used to dealing with liberals that they forget communists can actually notice patterns of behaviour.

The Nazi belief that if you don’t approve of our genocide it must mean you want to genocide us.

No we cannot just stop doing genocide its clearly us or them! People of different religions or ethnicities can never live together!

Yeah, when people are saying someone is Hitler and an “existential threat” to Jews, if you believe these claims, the logical conclusion is to kill that person. It would be inexplicable if there were no attempts on his life, unless the Dems shut him down so effectively that people decide he’s not a threat after all.

“I think killing Palestinian children is bad” is apparently the same thing as “I want to genocide the Jews” apparently?
