    I put video call at the bottom. It’s the most awkward because voice has less delay. Face to face has none. If you try to Facetime me, I’ll block you. It’s for talking to my (small children) niece and nephew on their bdays and that’s it.

    Nah. Text > in person >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> video call > audio call. I hate calls so much. With in person communication people can at least see that I don’t have time for them, and I can also see them coming. I also find it easier to keep my train of thought while talking in person.

    Calls are like a random interruption of everything I’m doing and therefore catch me by complete surprise, causing stress. Usually it completely clears my working memory, meaning that I have to spend time and energy to get back to what I was doing.

      I’d put audio call over video personally. I hate being on camera. It stresses me out so much worse. Also with audio calls they can’t see me multi-tasking.

    Audio call is the worst actually.

    Live communication and no face to interpret context. Absolutely the worst.

    “hello are you still there?” While my mind is still processing the previous sentence.

    There do exist conditions that will cause me to pick up the phone when you call and unless you meet them i wont even tell you what they are, just send an email or text instead.

    Am I the only one who prefers face-to-face over everything else?

    It’s the only form of comms where I have all the information/cues to interpret, and no bullshit lag.

    1. In person - all cues, real time.

    2. Text - verbal comms, gives me a chance to read. No body language or tone to glean from though.

    3. I hate audio calls because I’m hard of hearing, sound quality is shit and I can’t lip read or respond on my own time.

    4. Video is somehow worse since now two sensory inputs are fucked due to awful stream quality/lag and my usual methods of trying to understand what’s said are shot. Worse, people expect it to be “better” because I can see now and it makes me angrier. 🙃

      I don’t know why people think this is true. Just because you message me on slack doesn’t mean I’m going to see or respond to it immediately.

          Even with SMS, idk why people expect an immediate response. My dad texts me and if I don’t respond in an hour, he starts spamming me. I don’t think there is a single piece of technology out there where people should expect the recipient to be constantly reachable.

    One of the myriad reasons phone customer service jobs are horrible, but also good at training you for interacting with horrible people if you can manage it.

      when a company puts its reps at a disadvantage by always being grossly understaffed and having hour+ wait times… who’s the ‘horrible’ people? the company or the caller?

        My company has zero wait times and is a non-profit that gives money to children.

        It’s the callers. There are a lot of people who are genuinely terrible and seem to feel like it’s okay to treat anyone they think is beneath them as terrible, to say nothing of the insane sexism/racism that people like to spew.

        Both can be, I have worked phone customer service with zero wait time and long wait times across multiple sectors and some people are straight abusive over the phone even for problems they caused.

      Same and same. Everything being re readable makes me nervous and awkward. Chat is for ppl I feel comfortable around.

    It’s easy to take a few minutes and think about what to say before responding over chat, but when I do that during a face to face conversation people get annoyed for “ignoring them” and “just standing there silently” smh.
