That was the point, politicians all over the EU have designed the system to do exactly that. The entire dither and delay tactics and watering down of measures, laws and scrutiny were all in the pursuit of extraction of maximum money from the governments into private hands in the name of investments and the politicians took their bribes to make it happen.
An EU crackdown on greenwashing looks imminent.
Well that doesn’t sound too bad.
But of course our local fear- and hatemongerers already scream and rant in alarm
It’s almost funny when they try to argue “let’s not be hasty about green measures, it could hurt the economy”. It’s already way too late for green transitions but if we don’t do something drastic now, the holy economy will be fucked way way worse in the future than it already is now. Droughts, floods and catastrophic storms are really bad for everybody, but these idiots are too shortsighted and narrowminded to see that. “I wouldn’t affect me, I’m rich” is their motto. Yeah, but if the global economy tanks, your locked-in-shares money will be worthless.
Looking at how quickly the Russian economy has managed to change to war time economics, droughts, floods are not the priority, understandably.
The real answer will be, it won’t affect me because I own parts of Ukraines farms, or I own chip manufacturing for efficiently growing gmo crops.
We’ll be heading to 15th century colonial time
It’s a strange position where rich center-left (old electorate) enact half measures that are green but do more harm for the poor.
And the new ultra right electorate that remove it all and add tax breaks for the rich.
The likes of Meloni shouldn’t be so worried about the economical impact of what is happening here. The EU is way too corporation friendly for that. No, they just want another round of fear- and hatemongering around the ever-same familiar topics, because that’s what they run on.
