[email protected]

When this community was started, the idea was to have a [email protected] version, but focused on Europe. Yurop was selected as a name to show that it was less serious, but it seems like it still gets associated with https://old.reddit.com/r/YUROP/ , which is more about making memes about the Europeans news than casual conversation.

I have recently opened [email protected] to solve this. Feel free to join us there, there is already some conversation going!

Where will content be posted now?

I will personally post content on the new community. Piefed has some nice features that can be used, so it’s a good opportunity.

What will happen to [email protected]?

Not sure yet, but as the community wasn’t that active, it will probably just become inactive. I could also lock it to push people to the new community, but that probably won’t be necessary at first.

Feel free if you have any questions

Let the complaining begin! I’ll kick things off. To me “casual” is such an American word. It evokes images of a “dude” in “slacks” and ugly white New Balance “sneakers”, “having a beer” (but only one). I’m pretty sure Brits - for whom joking is the whole purpose of life - use this word mostly ironically, or they certainly did when I was at school. The very idea of being “casual” is kind of comic in its self-regard, if you think about it.

Anyway, “Casual” it is. And who cares what Brits think, they left Europe after all, right? So maybe I’ll come and have a (single) Bud Lite with the Euro-dudes at your new community soon. Have a nice day!

It’s because everyone just copies the R-site and whatever else comes from across the pond. Like the obedient little supplicants of our cultural overlords that we all are!

        But yes, fair enough.
