The thought behind it was that these crimes were so heinous, no woman would dare to lie about being assaulted or raped. The push was to socially and legally punish these men who were accused without the usual evidence hats required.
While eventually, the legal system did work out to find the truth, socially, these men were crucified.
It was painfully obvious to anyone not trying to push an agenda that women lie just as often as men do, and while it’s true that MOST of us don’t lie about such heinous things, some of us absolutely will, for the attention, revenge, or both.
