    Marketing should be banned.

Its sole purpose is to get people to buy shit they do not need, in order to make someone more money than they deserve. All through manipulation of your brain.

It’s the sole reason we are over consuming.

Maybe not banned as then consumers would not know about products that might enrich their lives.

      But definitely very heavily regulated

Consumers would just search for those kinds of products themselves if they encounter a problem they feel the need to improve. They don’t need to be told those products exist.

This is objectively not true. Not everyone has every idea to solve every problem. Sometimes someone fixes a problem you didn’t know you had. Happens all the time in hobbying for example.

No one is right in the Israel-Gaza conflict and I feel like many of the pro-palestine people’s ideals are closer to those of nazi’s than the ideals of all the people they’re calling nazi’s.

Yes, except the Israeli government are the ones creating ghettos, actively stealing land and ethnic cleansing.

Neither Hamas or the state of Israel are good, or right, but one of these two has put way more points on the board over the last half century, and it ain’t Hamas.

Hamas is the result of Isreal’s brutality, not the cause.

I can’t stand coffee. It smells skunky to me, and it tastes bad. It’s probably a genetic quirk of mine. But as a result I don’t get the hype for it, and I sometimes wonder if some people just like it because it’s cool to like it.

It’s definitely an acquired taste, I assume that if you get hooked on it, you start to associate the taste with getting stimulated which makes it seem pleasant.

Having said that, I don’t drink coffee (tastes awful unless it’s drowned in milk and sugar at which point what’s the point), but the smell is heavenly, and I like coffee flavour in cakes/desserts.

And I say this having tasted some of the best espresso known to man - my closest friend is obsessed and has equipment worth thousands, and we’ve sampled great coffee places including in Italy.

I’ve tried drinking it many times. In fact I used to drink it a bit when I was a teen, but the taste was “meh” to me and I was getting stomach cramps when I drank it. So I stopped. And over the years since then the smell has just got more and more skunky and unpleasant to me.

I don’t even like coffee flavored chocolates or foods because of my dislike for the taste of coffee. I put up with the smell of the drink for my wife’s sake (because she loves coffee). But sometimes it gets so over-powering to me that I just quietly go to another room.

I really think it’s something in my active genes that causes my dislike of coffee. Like my body thinks it’s poisonous or something.

“Believe all women” has had devastating consequences on women who have been raped or sexually assaulted.

“Defund the police” actually hurts POC and lower-income communities the most, because the rich just hire their own.

Everyone is all uppity about climate change, but what’s going to kill us first is deforestation and the overuse of agricultural practices. It takes about 100 years for soil to replenish nutrients. It takes 200-400 years for new soil to be created if left alone. We’re fucked.

“Believe all women” was a popular slogan that arose from the Me Too movement, and is part of why it petered out the way it did. The thought behind it was that these crimes were so heinous, no woman would dare to lie about being assaulted or raped. The push was to socially and legally punish these men who were accused without the usual evidence hats required.

While eventually, the legal system did work out to find the truth, socially, these men were crucified.

It was painfully obvious to anyone not trying to push an agenda that women lie just as often as men do, and while it’s true that MOST of us don’t lie about such heinous things, some of us absolutely will, for the attention, revenge, or both.

Look up Mattress Girl, shes one of the more famous ones. Lied for the attention and the grade.

I’ll bite: most people don’t give a fuck about the fediverse and the hassle of having to understand it all in order to navigate it is only a barrier to entry that will slowly drive away people until the platforms die a slow, painful death.

Everyone on here saying they like it this way and prefer it over the mess that is Reddit or X are completely missing the point that negative growth will only lead to a failed platform.

The fediverse tries to solve a problem that doesn’t exist for everyone, while promoting itself as the solution to everyone’s problem.

You’re right, most people don’t give a fuck about it, and many of the attitudes on Lemmy aren’t shared by the vast majority of people. That’s not necessarily a problem, but it is if you think that Lemmy is going to suddenly overtake Reddit.

The people who claim to fight the hardest for civil rights, actually wind up making the situation worse, not better.

I don’t mean the people who fight the hardest, but the people who are the most in your face about it…

Truly fighting for civil rights usually means defending some of the worst people that exist, and most aren’t actually willing to do that.

Reminds me of that guy who drove kkk members to meetings, he had a collection of kkk uniforms he was given as his friends quit. I cant remember his name, he was a guitarist or bassist I think. He stood for thier rights of free speech and ended up changing thier minds.

Black tea is superior to coffee, because the caffeine rush is much more pleasant and the crash is mild. It’s better at helping you focus and improving your mood. Tea doesn’t wreck your stomach lining and turn you into a raving looney when you can’t get it. It’s cheaper than coffee, pound for pound. The people who run the world are all tea drinkers.

I used to eat steak well done until I made it myself for the first time and massively misjudged the timings. Came out medium rare and it was amazing. Do it that way every time now.

But people acting like well done steak is a crime against nature is so bizarre.

Personally I think you should be banned from eating a good cut of meat ever again. The boiled leather of an old worn out shoe should be a feast for you.

The good news is I would argue the most expensive cuts of beef pretty much cannot be “ruined”. So eating them well done is probably ok. I’m talking about meats with insane amounts of marbling like Kobe beef.

If you don’t support the Free speech rights of the people you hate the most, then you’re against free speech.

Being against free speech is authoritarian

All censorship is bad…no matter who’s doing the censoring
