I imagine at least a Linux distribution created by Proton to compete with ChromeOS, which even has a large share in Linux distributions. The Proton ecosystem is there (a Google Docs-style office suite would be missing + the full integration of Standard Notes) and it could be an entry into the company’s hardware? What do you think?

There’s nothing to suggest they haven’t been able to spare the resources or hire more component people.

Hiring more people to work on new products is often a better route than hiring more people to work on the same product as well because there are fewer toes being stepped on.

If they had an office suite available there wouldn’t be a need for another OS/Linux distribution imho. Polish the existing products and any Linux distribution should do the trick for you, most of them already are very privacy and security focused.

I dont want everything from the same provider… Proton is still a company looking to make money off me. I use their VPN, use their email. Everything else is fluff in my opinion which they should polish and fully realize first, before adding yet another mediocre service
