    I’m curious about the arrests, there isn’t much to go on here. I used to live in a US state that required no licensing or insurance for mopeds so it seems good to enforce something like this. In that state, they were called liquor cycles…

      During the two-week crackdown, officials arrested 81 people, impounded 273 scooters and issued 161 notices or tickets.

      I’d like clarity as well. They impounded 273 vehicles. They arrested, warned, and ticketed 242 people. So what 31 people they were like you’ve got a license, insurance, and a helmet…have a nice day! Are the percentages really that bad for legal drivers versus illegal or are 31 people lucky to get the cop that was tired of writing official warnings?

      Also what separated a warning versus a ticket or even more extreme, being arrested? Were they arrested related to the moped or did they have other things on their record…it’s just very vague.

      What. The. Fuck. Here you can done for dui on a lawn mower if you’re silly enough to drive it on a public road. Which I’m completely fine with. Having random lunatics ride around on e scooter is dangerous as it is, mopeds is wild.

        I think they might be referring to the fact that they no longer have a valid license, so they opt to ride mopeds to go get the liquor.

          That’s pretty much what I’m referring too? Pissheads who’ve lost their license to DUI here get done for the same (edit: and driving while disqualified) when they think they’re clever and ride their mower to the pub. Pretty much anything going onto a public road needs to be a registered (and therefore insured) and the operator licensed. I couldn’t imagine non-licensed riders buzzing around city traffic on a slower version of a motorbike.

            Ya, it was more or less this. Nearly all the scooter riders had lost their license to a DUI conviction and could then legally cruise public roads on a scooter without a license or insurance. A helmet was required tho if I remember correctly 🙃
