Spain is the worlds 2nd tourist destination, and tourism is one of the major economic sectors. Spain really takes care of the tourism sector. It’s the fourth largest EU economy, A totally democratic, safe country: 303 gun related crimes to 37.000 in the US annually. Europe is very safe as a whole. The coast boasts some of Europe’s best beaches, including the Canary islands, a subtropical paradise, incredibly diverse (everything between snow in the Teide mountain, to literal deserts with places like La Palma island, a lush island) . You have the Ireland like green north coast to the dry, desert like south. There is an area, Almeria, that hosts the only real desert in Europe, where tons of western movies were filmed. Spain ranks 5th in world UNESCO sites, nature and cultural sites.

Do some research, and avoid tourist traps like Barcelona, Benidorm, Magaluf, etc. Places that cater to cheap mass tourism. Spain is literally chock-full of great places, nature and culture. to visit outside the usual tourist traps. Also, tourist traps tend to attract petty crime characters, like elsewhere in the world. Pickpockets and such.

Madrid is a massively underrated global city. Sophisticated and avant-garde at the same time, with a great night life, world class cuisine, and plenty of little gem restaurants. People are friendly if you don’t act as the quintessential entitled asshole tourist. Be humble and have a positive attitude. You are a guest, after all. It pays off.

They have a pretty nice digital nomad visa, apparently. About all you need a valid passport and proof that your employer has given you permission to work remotely from Spain.

I should go get my passport.

Got mine in the mail today. Do it asap if you can because you have to send in the originals of your documentation (I used my birth certificate) and you don’t get it back until a week or so after getting your passport. I’m probably just paranoid, but I have no desire to be waiting on the next administration to send my birth certificate back.

Did blahaj miss that the same government is going to block transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports at the same time?

So you’re homophobic and misogynistic? Because this news has nothing to do with trans. It has to do with gay couples and women.

So if you’re twisting these good news into bad news you must be a nazi.

Exactly and blahaj missed it; their commitment to trans people is little more than lip service like the democrats’ insistence that we vote for them over the Republicans because of project 2025 despite the Democrats ignoring the equal rights agreement to help protect us from project 2025

This is a shill thing of an instance meant to drive away traffic from the “dirty commie” tankies. Lol

It’s very important to keep track of rights, but I think it’s unfortunately human for some things to get missed. My friend group has four trans or nb folk, six or so gay or bi folk and a few straight allies. I’m the only person that knew about a law defining gender as binary in the state, and that’s probably because it was signed around the time that a transgender representative was banned from the state legislature which made news around the country. They didn’t even hear about it when the law was overturned a few months ago.

We get so much news every day from our local, regional, national, and global sources that it can be a full time job to sort out the losses of liberties that many people don’t care about because it doesn’t affect them

You should tell your bosses that they should allocate more $$$ to lgbtqia+ issues so that they can adequately make this corporate shill of an instance make blahaj look more legitimately look like it it’s lgbtqia+ friendly to keep their astroturfed appearance looking legitimate in the fediverse. It’s a public group, with content produced by community members, of which you are one.

If you see coverage missing, post it rather than complaining about the fact no one else has done the thing you haven’t done either

not at all complaining; merely pointing out that this is an astro-turfed instance with astro-turfed communities compared to it’s truly grass-roots oriented instances & communities analogs that won’t experience an inactive lemmy once your bosses lose interest.

there will be more similar such instances in the future and i will likewise point them out; so prepare your block lists. lol

Do you have anything you can reference to back up these assertions that the instance is astro turfed? Honest question. You’re making some pretty big accusations and I’m curious if there’s any merit to them versus just writing it off as trolling and/or social media melodrama.

The reason is that they basically think Ada’s the devil for not making the c/196 mod remove the “(also fuck tankies)” line from the cover image. They defederated with us, ostensibly for that reason, tho I’m fairly sure that it’s because they saw the writing on the wall (that blahaj was going to vote to defederate) and tried to save face.

Anyway there’s a bit of lemmy history for you.

This instance is an accident. Kaity created it for me to play with, when lemmy was barely a thing before hexbear was federating and before the reddit exodus happened.

And then when the reddit exodus happened, we had something like five active users, but still, as the only queer instance that was federating with the rest of lemmy we got a huge influx of people. And suddenly, instead of being a single person instance, we had become a community almost overnight.

Our history is far more boring than your version.

At least a part of that huge influx was caused by a post in r/traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns telling people of the instance’s existence. That’s how I found it anyway.

Spain was the world’s 3rd country to legalize gay marriage. It’s an extremely LGTBQ+ friendly country. The trans sport issue is super complex, due to the natural physical advantages that physical constitution can make in a sport. Don’t go the simplified route. If I were a woman competing in a purely physical sport, like weight lifting, or any other sport that emphasizes power, I’d be all for the ban. Archery, or horseback riding, or any sport that emphasizes skill, no. I believe it has to be approached on a case by case basis. We can’t trample biological rights over a trans rights. As I said, a really thorny issue, but Spain is not by far, very far, suspect of trans bashing. Nature can be a bitch.

what do you mean “miss”? i think everyone decent is on your side that the trans discrimination needs to stop. but this not happening at this point doesnt make this news bad. As a queer activist for many decades i can tell you that queer rights sadly come in baby steps. And that we need to fight together and celebrate every advancement.
