Oh they know. As one of them explained it to me 20 years ago, they always knew it was temporary. They accept American help when given but do not make plans to depend on it. They did that once and got slaughtered by Saddam.
I have no doubt. But also, one of the signs of our soul is how we treat them. They’re allies who share many ideals with us in an unstable region and just want democratic autonomy. They keep helping us. When we fail them we prove ourselves worthless to the world
Yup, and I feel it every time. I suspect there’s a few of us who had the chance to actually see Kurdistan who feel the same way. But considering both parties seem intent on throwing them under the bus at every opportunity I don’t have any hope.
