  • Literally that. He wants to privitize healthcare, cut social programs and corporate taxes, has shown strong signs of capitulation to the USA, etc. His campaign manager is a Loblaws lobbyist and vocal MAGA-hat wearing Trump supporter.

Even the carbon tax has been proven around the world not to cause inflation and no more carbon rebate is a loss for Canadians. But people drank Poilievre’s baseless lies that “axing the tax” is a silver bullet for cost of living and so keeping it is political suicide.

Pierre does not plan to build government low income housing, however, which would actually help the housing market and Canadians.

By now, it is clear that the housing market will not fix the problems they’ve created. Affordable, public housing built for, well, housing instead of as an investment vehicle pays off and was done by Canada and around the world until recent decades when commodified housing took off from neoliberal policies.

When Canadians can afford housing, they spend more productively than paying down mortgage interest or rent. This comes back around and pays off for everybody.

  • Deplorable.

Thirty of us shared one room. We were given one Styrofoam cup for water and one plastic spoon that we had to reuse for every meal. I eventually had to start trying to eat and, sure enough, I got sick. None of the uniforms fit, and everyone had men’s shoes on. The towels they gave us to shower were hand towels. They wouldn’t give us more blankets. The fluorescent lights shined on us 24/7.

Everything felt like it was meant to break you. Nothing was explained to us. I wasn’t given a phone call. We were locked in a room, no daylight, with no idea when we would get out.

To put things into perspective: I had a Canadian passport, lawyers, resources, media attention, friends, family and even politicians advocating for me. Yet, I was still detained for nearly two weeks.

Imagine what this system is like for every other person in there.

  • When someone buys a used Tesla, that’s one less new Tesla sold = lower Tesla sales numbers, profits, and viability of dealerships. It also devalues the car.

Used car prices have been similar to new in recent years, so devaluing Teslas makes buying used a more attractive option for people who would buy one anyways.

For example, I would also rather have someone who couldn’t otherwise afford an EV be buying a cheap, devalued Tesla and slapping a bunch of anti-Musk stickers on it than buying a new gas car.

Another example is I would rather have a MAGA idiot buying a used Tesla and unintentionally denying Musk another new car sale than a gas-guzzling pickup truck.
