  • it’s Meta, so who cares?

Most people don’t care if it’s Meta, or what Meta even is. Also, Meta has by far the most VR users, and the Quest 3 is already one of the most used Steam headsets. The Quest line is the most relevant VR hardware out there.

the Zuckersphere is a horrible place

Probably in the future it will be, but not right now. Metas product lifecycle always starts out with being good to their users, which is where we are currently. The enshittification usually comes later. For some aspects (content and standalone) it’s basically the only option. If and when we reach that point there will hopefully be alternatives.

    it’s still Vive or nothing

I’d love to have a Steam standalone headset, but it doesn’t exist (yet?) and the Vive is truly outdated by now. Not even bigscreen beyond or the index?

  • It sounds like Henriette couldn’t keep up due to health issues and I hope she’s doing okay under the circumstances.

It feels like there is one app per user and since Lemmy hasn’t been growing much (looks like it’s been shrinking lately) it’s probably unavoidable for this to happen. I’d love to see everything grow, but that’s just the hype cycle I guess. I’m pretty sure this sadly won’t be the last project to slowly fade out of existence.

Sorry to be such a downer ^^

  • Amazon is adding full-screen video ads that will play when you start your Fire TV unless you quickly perform an action on it. […] “Our focus is on delivering an immersive experience so customers can enjoy their favorite TV shows and movies, as well as browse and discover more content they’ll want to watch. We’re always working to make the Fire TV experience better for customers and have updated one of the prominent placements in the UI to play a short content preview if no other action is taken by a customer upon turning on their Fire TV.” Amazon said in a statement to Cord Cutters News.

Sure, that’s definitely a feature for customers. Especially the fact that you can only click it away in the first few seconds. I also love to have my ads be immersive. Biggest pile of bullshit I’ve heard this week.

No way am I saying it should go unopposed. But I also don’t think “ripping out intruders and casting them into fire” is going to be a feasible solution in this case.

I don’t live in the US btw, if that’s what you mean by “Settler”. (Are we continuing the discussion by editing the comments now? ^^)

Okay, so “settler” is not a geographical thing for you. Must be nice living in a world where people can be categorized so easily and accurately into two groups. And also nice that good and evil are so plainly obvious. If only the real world wasn’t so complicated.

I‘m not trying to argue for one side here and I’m certainly no expert in this conflict. All I’ve been saying is that violence is probably not going to be the solution here. Especially not the kind of violence that Israel is and has been putting Palestinians through.

Maybe how the conflict itself came to be isn’t simple (and calling anything simple that involves politics is probably always wrong). But the situation for the people in the Ukraine itself is pretty simple. They’re being attacked and they’re defending themselves.

I mean … one of these is a violent conflict where mostly civilians are being hit, on both sides. The other is a country defending itself from an invasion. One of these is really complicated and I’m pretty sure violence won’t solve much. The other one really isn’t complicated on the same level and violence (defense) is pretty much the only choice.
