To be fair, this is probably one of those things that, like a lot of Catholic Church rituals, is steeped in pointless ceremony, like everyone needs to kneel and blink twice when the man with the censure enters the room, and look to the left if the censure is emitting visible smoke, but stand up and clasp their hands if it isn’t.
