It is not fucking TALENT! If you want something you invest in the outcome. If we wanted to have American engineers and scientists today that can put people back on the moon and not Musk’s fail rockets spinning out of control over the Indian Ocean and exploding over the Caribbean while a bunch of clout hounds cheer on the livestream like it’s a big success then 20 years ago we would have been putting money into things like universal higher education, like other countries that take the future seriously.
I grew up around Johnson Space Center and remember the layoffs being devastating to so many people, actual trained engineers and such being laid off to facilitate the pivot toward a private space industry thats most recent success has been to pollute South Texas and the Gulf, as if that poor 300 million year old inlet sea can take any more abuse. 198 Raptor engines are down there. Just a little ecocide as a treat.
Those movies are horrifically fascist, racist, and homophobic. I’m surprised they didn’t have a happy merchant and Buffalo Bill character just for good measure in case they missed any spaces on their Bigot Bingo card.
maybe they’re just RETVRN guys for Engineering being mostly an army matter first and then after that somebody might also build a civilian bridge sometimes
I’m pretty sure we even have the nerds to make this happen, we just keep putting MBAs in charge of them because everything works better when some mouth breathing PowerPoint monkey calls the shots based on this quarter’s line projections.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that I agree that investment would be great and useful, but we’d also probably have to kick our dipshits-in-charge habit too.

“If we kill everyone else, that means we win”
The movie 300 and its consequences for the American psyche can not be overstated
Hated it even as a teenager when it came out but the kicking into a pit meme does hold up

I think the south park parody of it covered the rest

Yeah their base consists of Rome guys

Who are you and how do you know my wife’s boss?
We are all subject to your wife’s boss in this cursed place
No let them cook… I want to see the Musk AI “Grokit” take flight with him on board 🙏
Also I don’t like that at some level I still seem to consider this “us,” if I’m being honest.
