I’m reading ‘The Emperor Has No Clothes’ and that’s what it sounds like. Hemp is the best thing for making textiles and plastic and paper; It’s better medicine for a ton of things than most pharmaceutical drugs; Its seeds are one of the best foods; and it grows fast anywhere. It’s an old book and I haven’t checked the many sources, but is it all true? I know you can get psychologically dependent on smoking weed, and I suppose it could go invasive (though people could just use it when it does), but I’ve only eaten the seeds - is there any other caveats? Why don’t I see more about China and Russia using it? Is it possible to try to grow in a city in the US (guerrilla gardening?)? Also, I’m wondering if edibles or whatever make it worse. I know there are environmental problems with growing it indoors for THC.
Edit: I forgot to mention the reason why we’re not using it is because the industries that would be taken over by it (plastics, pharma, etc) got the government to ban it under racist pretenses.
Hemp hearts are really good, high in protein and fiber and totally VEGAN
I don’t really like the effects of THC, it makes my mind race and my body tense up
Hemp/cannabis certainly has benefits, but a lot of those benefits have been exaggerated to support decriminalization/legalization. When it comes to medicine, cannabis has benefits as a non-opioid analgesiac/painkiller, so that’s obviously a huge boon for chronic pain where the risk of opioid addiction and another side-effects are a major concern. However, I would be skeptical of claims of healing properties of cannabis or any other proposed panacea.

Its reconigsed as an effective soother for people undergoing cancer treatments; radio/chemo-therapy tends to completely remove peoples natural appetite. Often times outcomes will be really poor for them as they wont eat what there body needs to recover.
Because of this, the NHS in the UK prescribes it for this specific circumstances; its ability to trigger ‘the munchies’ helps people maintain a consistent diet and aids in recovery.
‘Rick simpson oil’ is also known to be good for skin cancer.
Also lastly, its known to be effective in treating seizures in children.
I get the scepticism, and agree people exgerate it; its important to understand the dialetic going on though and find the middle ground. I do believe the positives of it being legal vastly outweigh any negatives.
I’m not saying it shouldn’t be legalized or that those other benefits aren’t present, I’m saying that cure-alls/panaceas don’t exist and that legalization advocates in the past have indulged in that sort of myth-making.
Yeah, I feel you; positive-myths are still not good, they can make people have ephinanies where they find out one side is lying/exgerating so change teams, it happens.
i think the source of his skepticism about it is the claim on a healthy alternative to smoking tobacco, and that is total bs, because the act of smoking itself is harmful, you are burning stuff and inhaling carbon monoxide, that is toxic af.
there is a argument about being healthier than cigarettes because it is a natural product, without the chemicals they use, but the tobacco industry is trying to reinvent itself with the same argument by selling roll up cigs with “fresh” tobacco.

Yeah, smoking weed is bad, I dont do it personally and wouldnt advocate for it.
Vaping the raw bud is safer but the safest method ultimately remains edibles or topical oils you can rub into your skin.
Nicotine is super addictive and THC isn’t technically. I didn’t look at the source, but the book claims weed clears people’s lungs and makes them live much longer than if someone just smoked tobacco.
Inhaling any kind of smoke is not good for you. Regardless whether it’s addictive you still fill your lungs with all sorts of shit that’s not supposed to be there. And vaping probably isn’t much better either. Stick to edibles and oils.
in terms of chemistry, the reactions that happen at vaping vs burning temperatures are basically nothing alike. this should be fairly obvious from the smell of smoke vs the (almost complete lack of) smell of weed vapor.
Correct, if you gotta, you might as well just do edibles, gummies, oils. No long term lung damage, and also doesn’t stink up everything around you.
The USSR used hemp extensively afaik. Personally it helped me recover from anorexia. Starving myself since I was a child made it so I can’t feel hunger to this day, so without cannabis giving me that sensation, I’d still be a bag of bones. One of my girlfriends also uses it for pain management (psoriatic arthritis) and the only thing her doctors will give her (on the condition she stops cannabis) are fucking opioids. Idk I’m a fan. It’s not a miracle drug, but it’s still useful for a ton
Marijuana kills.
i watch a dude that lives in china, he says that because of the century of humiliation and opium abuse, china has a strong anti-drug policy, u can get in jail pretty easily for using, and death penalty for dealing, but wild marijuana cultivation and usage is fine since they haven’t been selected to contain big levels of thc so they can’t get you very high.
as for russia, i guess the church maybe forbid it.
and the last edit part you said basically summed it up, cotton lobby, plantations and the plant be associated religious practices of some people.
i myself wanna try smoking some to see if it can help me sleep a little better, I’ve been trying passiflora but no luck, getting canabis oil prescription is almost impossible and get the medicine itself here in brazil.
It’s funny how the Catholic Church rejected the most popular medicine ever in favor of alcohol and bloodletting.
It’s better medicine for a ton of things than most pharmaceutical drugs
That’s a bold claim commonly made by hucksters of all sorts. It has its documented medical uses, but as others have mentioned, it’s no panacea.
Yes, its great.
I vape it, then turn the vaped bud into butter.
I know you can get psychologically dependent on smoking weed
This applies to anything; gambling, food etc.
The reasons why this happens is the overwhelming stress of capitalist life that encourages people into escapism, weed can be an avenue of this.
Hemp is a good material for making clothes and concrete and other stuff. And the plants themselves have good air purifying qualities. I used to live near some fields of weed which were used for those exact things (you couldn’t smoke the plants).
As for drugs use. It has some benefits. Wouldn’t personally call it the best drug ever. Never liked the effects that much tbh.
You could grow your own plants. I did it in The Netherlands and they did just fine indoors. Outdoors depends on the climate of course.
concrete
Hold up… what? I need to know more…
Bro doesn’t know about hempcrete.
Isochanvre, a rediscovered French building material made from hemp hurds mixed with lime, actually petrifies into a mineral state and lasts for many centuries. Archeologists have found a bridge in the south of France, from the Merovingian period (500-751 A.D.), built with this process. (See Chenevotte habitat of Rene France in appendix 1)
Oh yeah!
