Mainly through fixes to long-troubled loan relief initiatives, the Biden administration has now approved nearly $169 billion in loan forgiveness for roughly 4.8 million people.

Its new plan is expected to reach at least 25 million more people.

Most of his reform so far has focused more on making the current paths that existed more obtainable, ex: public service loan forgiveness. So he has made student loan forgiveness where you meet specific qualifications much better, which is very helpful, but not everyone qualifies.

Blanket student loan forgiveness hasn’t happened, because it was successfully blocked by the Republicans (after like 4 attempts). I assume this is referring to blanket forgiveness.

Could be wrong on all this, if anyone spots something incorrect just say it.

…to make their private schools cheaper?

Let’s describe this as it really is: they want to take public funds to use for religious indoctrination.

Religious indoctrination of a very specific sort.

Just wait til the madrasas start using public funds… See what happens to them.

He started forgiving student loan debt in August of 2022. The Republican Supreme Court keeps blocking him.

The vast majority of that should have been forgiven years or decades ago under existing programs…

It’s just they put loan servicers in charge of the loan forgiveness programs, so they were intentionally understaffed and prone to errors.

When people hold up dollar amounts like Biden is doing a lot, that number is inflated by fraudulent interest Biden is just paying with our tax money.

Is it better than him ignoring the problem like Obama and trump? Sure.

But he’s literally doing the bare minimum of enforcing programs that have existed for decades, and drastically overpaying meaning for the same dollar amount, more people should be getting loan forgiveness.

It sounds great if you only read headlines tho…

The Republican Supreme Court keeps blocking him.

And if Hillary’s primary campaign hadn’t taken over the DNC, we’d be coming out of Bernie’s second term with the most progressive SC in history.

Making excuses for Biden always just ends up arguing against moderate politicians like Biden. It’s their fault we’re in this shitty situation to begin with

Hey, neat! It’s a couple of talking points.

When people hold up dollar amounts like Biden is doing a lot, that number is inflated by fraudulent interest

“They are lying to you about numbers, don’t pay attention to the numbers! Just in general; no numbers. Pay attention to my vague, inflated, ever-shifting claims, instead.”

Biden is just paying with our tax money.

“This politician is spending our money!” (mostly this one is emotional impact – it is true that practically everything the government does is spending people’s tax dollars, but suggesting that some specific thing is them spending your money is alarming to people on a survival level and triggers this kind of hatred for the situation overall)

But he’s literally doing the bare minimum

“Okay, he is making progress, but it doesn’t count!”

drastically overpaying meaning for the same dollar amount, more people should be getting loan forgiveness.

Literally no idea what you are talking about here. I think you messed up by making it too specific, so it’s factually untrue – you gotta keep it within the realm of technically true but wildly misleading things (“paying with our tax money”).

Are you suggesting that when Biden forgives $10k of student loan debt, the borrower is receiving less than $10k worth of forgiveness? How would that even work? I think you got too excited at the keyboard and let your typing-froth get too close to factual reality and kind of exposed the fact that it’s all made up bad faith bullshit.

It sounds great if you only read headlines tho…

“I’m the well informed one! If you disagree with me you are foolish / naive / victim of propaganda / etc!”

Making excuses for Biden always just ends up arguing against moderate politicians like Biden. It’s their fault we’re in this shitty situation to begin with

Bringing factual reality = “making excuses for Biden”

General bad faith bitterness and blaming. It’s actually pretty remarkable how effective this is at turning “Biden tried to forgive $500B in student loans and has been fighting against efforts to stop him and still has succeeded in forgiving $167B and is still trying to do more” into “it’s his fault student loans even exist in the first place! Fuck him for pretending to care with his massive student loan forgiveness program positively impacting millions of people!”

Overall I rate this like a 4/10. You hit a bunch of general points that can produce an emotional impact and could literally be applied to anything, and you hit honestly a pretty good rhythm of nonstop firehosing claims wrapped up in a way that they could produce an impact. You got too factual, though; even one claim that is objective and testable and 100% false (the thing about “drastically overpaying” which doesn’t even make sense as applied to student loan forgiveness), can sort of snap people back into the realization that you’re just jabbering anything you can come up with to attack Biden with no connection to reality.

            Why?

I stand by what I said even tho it’s unpopular:

It’s better than nothing, but nothing to brag about.

And we’re giving the companies that fraudulently refused to process forgiveness the extra illegal interest they’ve been charging.

It only sounds like Biden is accomplishing great things if you don’t know the details and just listen to headlines…

Which is what we give trump supporters shit for.

      Bureaucracy takes time, unfortunately.

If they can take lessons learned and come up with a new package that even the current Supreme Court can’t strike down with that extra time, so much the better. (Sadly, I suspect that the current SC will just throw out jurisprudence entirely and give unsound decision after unsound decision to stop this, but if there’s a one in a million chance that they can find a line that even the current SC wouldn’t cross to stop this…)

That’s a lot of people who could stand to be reminded about what the GOP has blocked and what Harris would continue to push for.

It was slapped down by the court because he was trying to use emergency powers act that did not give him the authority to forgive student debt. And in his opinion, Justice Roberts specified exactly how to go about forgiving student debt. Something that Biden has still yet to do.

The court did NOT give Biden a way to enact loan forgiveness through executive action alone.

The court said congress must pass a law. And there is too much opposition to loan forgiveness in congress. Even if the proposed legislation finally got through the senate, the GOP house would block it.

Hes forgiving 169 billion already, which is roughly 40% of the 400 billion that supreme court blocked. It’s drastically more than any other admin has ever forgiven.

He already succeeded in forgiving student loans. Hes now attempting to forgive even more of them right before election to yes, keep the issue in peoples minds.
