Cuban expats that are vehemently anti communist.

And who have apparently assimilated so well into US society that they have no idea what communism actually is anymore. A democrat vote is still miles away from anything even remotely resembling communism.

When I was a teenager that started follow the politics of the US, I was extremely confused about the Republicans calling the left liberals, because our liberals were center-right.

It took me a few years to stumble upon the Overton window (without using that name at that time).

It’s only loosely connected with the Overton window, they just don’t know what the actual word means so it means “Democrat” to them.

Everyone knows Republicans are better for business. Just ask Donald Trump, he’ll tell you

Another reason is that Hispanics (like many minorities) are on average both more religious and more socially conservative than the general population.

My dad was African Caribbean with a heavy accent who got citizenship after decades in the US. At times, legal, at time illegal, as the system is quite intentionally broken. After ALL that experience, being repeatedly treated with racist attacks by cops, bank tellers, and who knows how many else, that’s just was I was around to see happen. Anyway, he was VERY pro-trump. Mostly because he was juvenile, and liked he could say a few lines of whatever Trump was saying and it would piss everyone off. He just loved it.

I’m convinced that most of what they say is to simply piss people off. Once someone is in a negative space long enough, they start to crave that attention and anger as their new norm.

Your dad went through a hell of a gambit to be here.

I know a surprising number of immigrants of various flavors, who are proud of overcoming all the obstacles to build a better, successful life for themselves and their families. They object to other immigrants “getting special favors”, “not following the rules”, “getting it easy”. Some of it is justified pride in their accomplishments but I can’t help but believe they are misinformed about attempted reforms, just like many other conservatives
